As far as how quickly must a kid take an offer- I know multiple people that received the “we are offering to three people in your position right now and the first one to take it gets it.” This happened with a lot of Ds/L I know last year. I have not heard it happening as much with pins. More of " we have 2 pin scholarships, we've offered 1 and she has accepted and its between you and another girl for the second". I honestly appreciate the candor. There were some programs that had such a large number of recruits early for 2024 there has to be some partials in play.

ISU's Christy Johnson-Lynch tweeted yesterday about a commit. Haven't seen any announcement yet.

Must have been the right situation for her👍 The Big 10 as a whole gave out very few 4 year scholarship offers this year. Several of those players listed as committing to the Big 10 took a 1-2 year scholarship offer. This class is still dealing with current college players choosing to take their 5th Covid year so there are very few scholarships available. And then there are a good chunk of schools that decided if they don’t get #1 or #2 for the position this year, they will wait for 2025 or use the transfer portal or look overseas. Because of this you’re going to see many exceptional athletes going to the mid majors for 2024.

I'm sure a bunch of 24's thought they'd have better offers than they currently do.

The Texas State head football coach was doing a radio interview last week and was asked about the portal. His overall response was he thought it was good for kids but it has turned non power 5 schools into the minor leagues for power 5. Which has advantages and disadvantages . The disadvantage they now have to discuss as a staff is a kid with no P5 offers gets developed and shines is going to be inclined to step up to power 5 schools looking to fill a need and they need to start having those discussions as a staff of who may not be here next year. But likewise a kid that signed power 5 after a year or 2 and isn’t seeing the PT they expected may look to them for a better chance to play and shine.
I assume that applies to volleyball as well.

The law of unintended consequences. 🤷♂️

Coaches want to have flexibility to shop the portal if needed so if they don't get top targets they will offer less and/or find the missing piece in the portal.
