Club have always said hitters get the 1st offers then setters then DS/L. At least from the early part of recruiting, there is a lot of love for DS/L. Why would a player commit this early if they are not getting at least a few years of scholarship? Unless it is THE SCHOOL they have always wanted to attend?

Exactly what I was thinking, could just be the school they want to attend. I was just wondering if the coaches would allow a preferred offer this early? Seems like a long ways to go to even have a clue what the roster might look like 3 years from now. My gut would have thought the preferred offers went out late but not early.

I can’t say for Baylor, but I know some of the 2024 Big 10 commits and some of those are 1-2 year scholarships only, and I’m not only talking liberos. Yep I have heard that too that many are only getting a partial year scholarship offer at this point.

If you are a 2024 and only getting partial offers you wait, unless you really like the school. You'll probably get those same partial offers next year.

I wondered if it is all because its more important to make that commit post on social media, its their dream school, or waiting until next year gets dicey when class of 25 players come into play? I dont know the answer.

I think with the transfer portal situation and also players still on the roster that can still use a 5th Covid year, 4 year full scholarships at a top program are few and far between. The recruiting landscape has changed significantly.

Neither do I really. But if you have confidence in your ability why settle too early. I've seen too many girls desperate for offers jump at the first one they get. Unless it is a school you like academically why jump at an offer that is really not that impressive, i.e. first two years you pay and the last two years are on scholarship. Show some patience. See what else is out there. But I suppose if it is the only offer you get it is better than nothing.
College coaches do not like to issue scholarships to girls who may sit the bench the first two years. So if the offer is the last two years is scholarship, that probably means you will be sitting the bench the first two years.

There's a limited "supply" of opportunities/scholarships at top programs. (And by "top programs" I mean schools with legit shots to make a final four.) But obviously there's great "demand" for spots on those rosters. If a player prioritizes winning over money, they're probably willing to take less to play at an elite program. While others would rather get a full ride at a lesser program. There are only a VERY select few players in the position to pick and choose their full ride offers at the top. Pretty much everyone else needs to decide what they value most and where they're willing to compromise.

After giving an offer, how long do programs give a student athlete to decide on the offer. I have heard a short as 48 hours to a few months. I guess it all depends on the player and the program. I guess some athletes, if they just have one offer right now, not sure if more will come then panic to accept?

As far as how quickly must a kid take an offer- I know multiple people that received the “we are offering to three people in your position right now and the first one to take it gets it.”
