Yeah I'm curious how the "two open level teams" thing is going to play out Me too. I wonder if they’re going to spread out the talent or there will be one team that is clearly better. AKA whichever team Spears is on (assuming she stays at TAV) 🤣 edit: or she'll play up again with 18s?

Lol yeah someone needs to pick up Drive's torch It maybe TAV since they’re having two teams in open at 17s. Could also be Skyline because that’s where Ping is going to. Has the shine came off Ping? Guy was handed an all star team and it didn’t look like they improved over the season? They didn’t form that team for a 8th place finish.

I think Ping should ditch the 6-2, Ayden Ames on the slide would have been more effective.

Lets not forget whichever Dallas based club forms a new super-team for next year. Lol yeah someone needs to pick up Drive's torch Is Drive Nation getting out of volleyball? I’ve read the rumors but haven’t seen it confirmed anywhere.

No they are posting pre-tryout clinics and coaching assignments for this upcoming season on social media, but with both Jason Nicholson and Ping leaving I think its people's assumption that the talent will move elsewhere since they are also losing their facility near DFW.

Seems like he always has shorter setters on his rosters which almost force a 6-2. Have to think he planned it that way...

Six Pack goes 11-0 to win 17 National. Was hoping they'd meet Milwaukee Sting along the way. They've had some good battles at 16 & 17U.

17s in North Texas is going to be interesting next season and in truth North Texas fashion, 18s will some chaos too (even though it should be the easiest thing ever).
There will be multiple impact players that have played up in the past or are playing up that will continue to do so creating some vacancies in 17s and overcrowding 18s. The draw of finishing in April vs mid July next year is just too strong.
TAV won't dilute teams at 17s too much to not have a clear favorite for a championship but chemistry means a lot so we'll have to see which one really and truly is the tops...raw talent/size or talent + chemistry.
I'm very curious to see how Ping's team plays out next year at Skyline. He doesn't feel like a cultural match at Skyline to me at all so that is step 1 of the intrigue. Step 2 is that all the kids he thought he was getting were coached by Jason Nicholson who had full access to recruit all those kids to go to TAV with him before Ping ever got a crack at them. Part 3 is if there will truly be any fallout from Ping's episode this season that several age groups got to witness including those same 16s. Pretty sure "modern" players aren't really up for that anymore, especially when they witness it first hand. And lastly, there was a lot of conversation locally about the unwillingness to go back to a 5-1 that was so effective early in the season, just because. Rigidity and an unwillingness to adapt are also things that I'm not sure "modern" players would want, seeing other teams adapt and adjust and have started playing the game in a little bit of a different way.
In terms of DN getting out, they will play this season but it won't look like the DN of the last two years in terms of competitive level for sure. There seem to be questions swirling around the club and they aren't really being addressed directly, more side stepped and it definitely has created some unease. So they will be around for the upcoming season but to what level will be interesting to see. I think there are going to be some second teams at some other clubs that have really great coaches that will benefit and possibly play above their usual USA or National level because they are going to benefit from some top team talent being available.
Skyline is kind of the X factor in all of this because of Ping coming over and what he can actually bring in the door and at the 18s level, that team is going to look quite a bit different as well. That coach is banking on the luxury of lots of free agent kids in the market and has created plenty of space to absorb them. We'll see who actually signs on the dotted line there.
Never a dull moment in North Texas as the 2023 season corpse isn't even allowed to get cold. It all gets going in less than 48 hours, even though many of these kids and families played their hearts out, had lots of hyper emotional moments and are just walking back in the door from Nationals with little to no time to process everything.
Good luck to everyone this weekend and congrats on a great 2023 season!

I don't know why, but they seemed to always be awkward, not smooth.
