USA will play the Dominican tomorrow at 6pm CT. I believe they've clinched their spot in next year's world championship. I dont think Brazil is eligible. (but dont quote me) how come Brazil isn’t eligible?

hmmmm I can see it now: "Hey elite underage Canadian volleyball players, want to pay thousands of dollars to travel to Tulsa, Oklahoma in the middle of summer to get your asses handed to you by the Americans on a volleyball court?"..... rich people these days Yes and it seems like the usual players - and other talent that maybe isn’t able to/doesn’t want to shell out the thousands of dollars to play with Team Canada - are all in Calgary this week representing their provincial teams at the Canada Cup. Do you know how much it costs to go to Canada's ID camps?

So the U19 Group in Canada actually has a training group of 36 or 40 athletes - 2 teams are playing at Canada Cup in Calgary right now and this Team is in Tulsa. Having done the “Canada Tulsa thing” previously with a couple of my kids I can tell ya the location is not a big draw - kinda like having an event in downtown Regina for those that need a Canadian comparison. Only Pro is that the hotels are all attached to the convention centre where this his hosted. The teams in Calgary right now are also not really lighting it up- and although I remember the cost being around 3 or 5k to participate there is the added cost if you want to go see your kid play. So the team in Tulsa right now is the best we have that can afford it.

So, is the number one team the one in Tulsa? Eww, I've been to Regina. Now I definitely have no need to go to Tulsa.

I’m sure Tulsa is a fine little town, but there are Other places that have much better weather and tourist things

Not trying to make excuses for the state of youth volleyball in Canada at the moment. Agree with what’s been posted. But please bear in mind our kids missed 2 compete seasons of club volleyball and most begun this club season with restrictions in place. Not saying there aren’t other factors within VC’s model that are frankly broken. But the effects of the pandemic has been pretty massive. The quality of play at nationals this year was considerably lower than 2018 and 2019 IM0. 2022 was the first year since 2019 there was a national championship. valid points for sure regarding the pandemic and you are correct that the level of play was better at nationals before the pandemic. However, I don’t believe we have changed the way we approach coaching at a higher level the way we need to in order to compete. If we continue on recruiting heavy arm left sides that can’t pass (or we can’t teach them???) then we are doomed to be irrelevant on the international scene. We currently can’t swing out of system like the top nations can. Let’s start with some big jumping, smart 5’10 left sides that pass great (we have them) and I’ll GUARANTEE we lose by much less than we are now … possibly even go above .500. We have a chance in system and no chance out of system…. look at our latest U19 group and you can see that poor passing ends badly for us Couldn’t agree more with your points. Furthermore there seems to be a trend/strategy towards bigger libs who play OH’s on their club/university teams. U19, U21 and senior team all struggled to pass with converted OH’s at lib.

So, is the number one team the one in Tulsa? VC would consider this the top U19 team. Of course opinions vary. Eww, I've been to Regina. Now I definitely have no need to go to Tulsa.

The coaches at the latest developmental camp in Tulsa have actually acted on what was noted above concerning the importance of out of system hitting! It was the main focus for much of the camp. By the way the coaching staff were the best and much appreciated by the campers.

Love the middles for the United States team, at least against Peru. They put up some pretty solid blocks. I wish they would get set more, but the U.S. seems to like to go outside.
Harper Murray is a beast so it is a good reason to go outside. She could not be stopped. I also thought she was the top player I watched in Indy at Nationals. She hits the ball so hard and I like her presence on the court.
Impressed with Choboy on defense. She doesn't get served a lot but she does seem to need some work on passing.
Really like Torrey Stafford as the other outside. She really gets up there and hits the ball hard.
Izzy Starck impresses me the most at setter, but that is based on what I saw from the Peru game.
The future looks bright, but the competition they are playing against is a tad subpar.

I do wish the middles were set more especially Bunton because from the eye test it seems like she has only gotten set 10 times through the two games that she has played.

The offense was visibly smoother, the sets went to many hitters, the sets were very soft and hittable, and all of the hitters ripped the ball. That didn't impress you?
