I posted this a few weeks ago, and am curious to see what people's general reactions would be:
Proposal: Two additional bonus points are awarded each week based on the college team that scores the highest in two randomly selected weekly categories.
How it would work: In addition to the 14 drafted players, we also draft 3 eligible teams for the bonus pool (the draft would include these three teams). So in addition to my 14 players, I'd also have on my fantasy roster Washington, Minnesota, and UCF. Each week, I submit two of those three teams into the bonus points pool. Each week two random categories are drawn to receive bonus points - say kills and digs. If the teams I selected scored the most in that week, I'd get those bonus points.

My thoughts on the last few ideas..
I do not think there would have been enough players to form an entire second league. I do think that organizing a 'practice league' for people that are interested could work. Maybe it only has as many weeks as there are matchups. Maybe you play everyone twice if it's super small. But players could get the feel of drafting and how much time commitment it is. I'd be willing to admin a practice league because it should be fairly simple.
I agree that adding the 5-0 bonus point did make things less fair. You become exponentially more likely to gain a bonus point if you're lucky enough to be scheduled against the inactive players at the end of the season compared to the beginning. I'd be fine with 4-1 and 5-0 wins both being worth 3 points, or doing away with points and going by record. Doesn't matter to me between the two really.
I think that adding extra match-ups is more work which will hurt the biggest goal which is to maximize participation. It's not a large amount of extra work, but it is extra work. Considering how many rosters were not submitted at all this season, you'd just be doubling the effects of that at the very least.
Same argument for adding bonus points for team awards. It would require people to remember something additional each week, and require more research at the beginning of the season to be competitive for it. Would definitely hurt the newer players. It also takes away from the traditional fantasy feel. Outside of football drafting a team defense instead of defensive players, I can't think of any other type of fantasy that adds any team element OR any bonus points. I could see that being another mini-league concept, but would require enough people to buy in.
I think simplifying the spreadsheet is a great idea because it got pretty sketchy at the end. I could see that being a huge positive change. But I know some people didn't use the spreadsheet at all anyways.

I'd be fine with 4-1 and 5-0 wins both being worth 3 points, or doing away with points and going by record. I don't know if the 5-0 bonus point really impacted the league. From what vup reported, there were only four 5-0 wins the entire season. I had two of them, one was due to the Kingsley roster error, but the other one was because vballfan & I played the same roster and I happened to win all the categories. You and vballfreak808 had the other 5-0 wins - but I can't remember if those were due to roster error or playing the same roster or just winning all 5 categories 'legitimately'. I don't feel that strongly either way - except that I like the 5-0 win bonus point if you play the exact same roster and win all categories. That should be rewarded. The 4-1 win instead of 3-2 when a roster error is occurring is the same as a 5-0 win getting an extra point that would have been a 4-1 win instead, so it really doesn't solve the 'problem'. Like when ay benefitted from rainbow not submitting a roster, he still gained an extra point, so it's not limited to 5-0. Anyway, that aside, the reason why I like the points system is that winning 3-2 every week doesn't guarantee the league title. It means that people can't stack 3 categories and be better for sure in those 3 and 100% win the league.

I think these are different scenarios - forgetting to submit a roster just means that what I anticipated rainbowbadger to do didn't actually happen. He actually ended up playing an extra L and we played the same number of hitters. that matchup could have just as easily been 3-2 to him (taking kills, digs, and blocks) and it just so happened that kills and digs were extremely close. That week, my team just performed better than rainbowbadgers where it mattered. That is different than injury to key players with no backup depth (which you can't plan for) or purposefully submitting a roster but not realizing that it had players who had no matches scheduled (Kingsley). IMO, I think getting 1 extra point because of roster inbalance or superior performance is one thing, getting two extra points because of injuries or mistakes seems excessive.

I'd put Sophia Davis as MVP for Draco. No-contest for huskerpower, it's Elizabeth Juhnke.
