Gonzaga did a great job of digging balls at the end to take the first set 25-23.
(And here I thought this was going to be a yawner of a match... heh heh)
BYU outhit Gonzaga .244 to .167 in the set loss, but got aced 5 times.

I watched enough of their match against San Diego on Thursday to be sure this would be a difficult match for BYU. Gonzaga seems to finally be clicking better. It never made sense to me that they were not better. |

I was thinking McComber had made some fabulous digs toward the end of set 1, but I see that BYU has switched liberos to Knudsen for set 2.

Line hits have been used very effectively by BYU's opponents all season, and I do not see that they have improved in defending them, as they continue to work time and again.

And once again the short roll shot sees no one going for it. Knudsen just looks at it and so does Livingston. Ugh!
Their defense is so unreliable in certain areas. Love watching the Zags defense though. And Thiros and Croft tool the block. Wish our outsides would learn from watching them.

BYU is doing enough to maintain a lead in this set, but they had opportunities for more. BYU 12-9. Challenge on the court (net touch by the blocker(s) I think). Hope it's shorter than the ones at Portland. It's not the same ref, so it should be.

The Gonzaga hitters are definitely working on mixing in a variety of smart shots, not just power kills. On another topic, though, I was just watching USA vs Serbia, and I can't say how refreshing it is to see how well Bower connects with her middles. She sets them so they are swinging fast, but at the top of their arm swing (instead of swiping balls by their ears a la USA today). |

they keep crediting Gneiting with these solo blocks... Bower was up with her.. why is she not getting credit for a BA.
LOL. the very next play they block it again and Bower gets credit for that one.. idk what the scorer's do.

Yeah, I was thinking during last Saturday's match that it's amazing the amount of slides BYU runs compared to a few years ago and how much better it looks. |

Llarenas is hitting 8/0/10 so far... and BYU is hitting .357 in the second set.
(Also, why is Heather wearing a baggy long sleeved T shirt for the match? Seems out of character for her and Gonzaga coach is dressed up.)
