good awards this week! Probably the last time we see Averi’s name this season. “And the Averi of the Week award goes to...(drum roll)...Averi Carlson!”

Yeah I thought about that after I posted. She’ll have to compete with the MBs too. But I definitely expect her to get this award a few more times this season

Really surprised to see KJ Adams not starting at libero for Tech this year. Interesting - I didn't notice that Maddie Correa was the libero. This may be a good sign for TT going forward if Correa is now the better choice. Reese Rhodes beating out Ellie Baumert for the setter position (for now) is a pretty interesting internal battle at the only real question on this team coming into the season.

good awards this week! Oklahoma’s Megan Wilson (Offensive), Texas’ Zoe Fleck (Defensive) and Baylor’s Averi Carlson (Rookie) earned the season’s first Big 12 volleyball weekly awards. The trio helped their teams to a 6-1 record during the week including a 4-1 mark against the Big Ten and three top 10 victories. Wilson was the MVP of the OU Invitational and led the Sooners to their best opening weekend start since 2018 (3-0). The Kingwood, Texas native helped Oklahoma to sweeps of Gonzaga and Iowa and a four-set win over FIU. The sophomore leads the Conference in kills (50), kills per set (5.0), total points (58) and is second in the league in points per set (5.8). This is her second career Big 12 Offensive Player of the Week and Wilson’s fifth overall Big 12 weekly honor. Fleck helped the Longhorns win two road games against No. 7 Ohio State with a sweep and a 3-1 victory in front of two sold-out crowds. The UCLA transfer had 37 digs and leads the Big 12 in digs per set (5.29) to earn her first Big 12 weekly accolade. Carlson had 78 assists in her debut weekend as a Bear and was named to the All-Tournament Team in Fort Worth, Texas, starting at setter in matches against No. 3 Wisconsin and No. 5 Minnesota. Baylor’s highest-ranked recruit in program history helped earn the league’s highest-ranked win of the weekend as BU toppled the defending national champion Badgers, 3-2.

Texas’ Logan Eggleston (Offensive), Texas Tech’s Maddie Correa (Defensive) and Baylor’s Riley Simpson (Rookie) captured Big 12 volleyball weekly awards for the second week of the season. The trio led their teams to an 8-1 record during the week. Eggleston guided Texas to two wins over top-15 opponents, finishing with 38 total kills for an average of 5.43 kills per set, the highest average in the league during the week. The two-time Big 12 Player of the Year had a team-high 22 kills in the 3-1 victory over No. 4 Minnesota and added 16 kills in a road sweep over No. 12 Stanford while totaling a Big 12 leading 6.36 points per set. This is the Brentwood, Tennessee native’s 10th career Big 12 weekly award, the eighth most all-time and ties her for third all-time in Big 12 Offensive Player of the Week honors (10). Correa helped the Red Raiders to a 4-0 week with wins over Tarleton, College of Charleston, Charlotte and Georgia, while pushing Texas Tech to its best start since 2014 (6-0). The sophomore libero has posted double-digit digs in every match of the season. She totaled 66 digs (4.71 per set) during the week while adding 18 assists and five aces to earn her first Conference accolade. Simpson played in all 11 sets at the Pepperdine Asics Classic, helping the Bears to a 2-1 mark and averaging 3.27 kills per set. The redshirt freshman registered nine blocks while leading Baylor in kills for two of the three matches and totaling 3.77 points per set, the 10th best in the Big 12 during the week.

KState should get the win over MO. The big question is if Iowa State can get by Drake…?

Are they any better than they’ve been the last couple seasons? Manifesting a clean sweep foe the Big12 today!
