How is that different than Cook subbing in and out various hitters last season (and the seasons before that)? Leave no doubt, this is Husker Volleyball, your position is (and should be) always at risk. Because a setter is a different type of position than a hitter. Orr needs every game rep she can get to build the connection with everyone, and didn't struggle so much on the first weekend to warrant a complete system shake-up, which had never been brought up as a possibility before, and in fact Cook had actively denied when directly asked. It gives the impression that Orr's being jerked around, and you run the real risk of undermining her confidence and alienating her, when you ideally have her for two more years. It's not like Hames ran a Swiss watch for the last four years, she got a three-block-long leash. I hope this is a one-match thing and not something they continue to mess with. Those are valid concerns, but I have to think Coach Cook knows what he’s doing. I also still wonder if Kennedi is at full health. |

Cook’s hand is almost forced to try a 6-2. As others have said, if this were week 4 of B1G play, that’s a BIG no-no. As it stands, our OHs can compete without fear of getting their leash pulled, and Cook can experiment with a lot of tinkering in practices, too. It’s not all about Orr. Neutral comment there. Who doesn’t want her to be successful? But Nebraska didn’t promise her anything more than what they promised the other 13 girls…

It was my impression that Kathi Weiskamp's commentary brought some very specific insights into what individual players were working on in practice and how they were doing.
