I think the team played good tonight but had their sloppiness here and there. Ah Mow always keeps it in perspective I love that about her, she’s not a sugar coat coach and she knows what she’s talking about. Sunday is going to be a good one, the middle battle is going to be intense. Hopefully the pins get up for this UCLA game!! have you been following ucla? I saw one game n but no forte she was great at Florida so I guess they have alot better ? (Don’t follow ucla so honest question lol)

Man somebody else needs to step it up. Amber can't do everything. The issue is not no one else is stepping up. Amber is hot right now so why not go to her? Also Tiff is playing great. Looking at the final stats Tiff didn’t play great. 🙄

As much as I love her as a player, totally fine with Luper not being ready to play Sunday. If she is cool, but girl rest that leg it’s fine lol

Amber carrying this team again. What happened to Tiff and Caylen Tiff’s spacing is bad so she doesn’t see the block well and keeps getting blocked. Caylen’s timing isn’t consistent, hits the ball on the way down a lot. I think those two are going to be key to the team’s success as far as just making those adjustments.

Yes but I believe she needs to take responsibility as well. since 2017 her teams have never looked organized for whatever reason In what way? In my opinion, they’ve never been particularly clean with execution especially on serve receive and offensive continuity. 2017 and 2018 were sloppy but players like Maglio, Iosia, Kahakai and Akiu really helped right the ship but they were different caliber players. 2019 might be the cleanest year but Hawaii nabbed 3 great transfers that were well trained coming in and of course Helvig with her sophisticated game along with Iosia. 2021 was nails outside of BVS and this year it looks like a mumble jumble to me but I appreciate how hard they work. Do you think they’ve ever looked consistently clean? And if so, why?

Do you think they’ve ever looked consistently clean? And if so, why? So I think they’ve always been a solid transition team, I think Ah Mow does a good job preparing her teams to be good defenders, whether it’s in the back row of net play, you can tell, whether it goes their way or not, that they’ve been drilled in that much. I would say in receive it’s tough because if I’m not mistaken, this is the first year that she’s had 2 consecutive seasons with 2/3 players in the main primary passing rotation return for another season and we’re full time the year prior. But idk how much of a factor that really is. So idk if it’s a comfort thing that Ikenaga and Riley are still getting a hang of, if it’s a personnel thing, or if it’s a training thing. But I agree they are rarely lights out in serve receive but i think this has to be the year to have that eventually be the case. Offensively, I think the hitters need work knowing how to get “their kills” consistently. Idk if it’s set location/tempo or what for the pins because they are just so streaky. I think diversifying their offense like we were talking about with Akana could be key here. Traditional medium/high pin to pin and middle on most good passes probably isn’t going to work for this team because there isn’t any consistent pin outlet that can OTT each swing or hits in hard enough to warrant challenging the block. But then I’m not even sure of how much of this on on Lang to locate People where they need to be, I know our pins are smaller but maybe they still need it tighter to use the block more? I think I would need to see this specific year’s team later in the season for a real assessment.

First time I have seen Hawaii play this season, on video or in person. A very interesting team. As noted by others, their defense is quite impressive, especially for this early in the season. Their serve receive is really questionable. It might be psychological, it might the team getting used to different people passing, it might be players just not feeling comfortable because Van Sickle isn't there. But certainly weird lapses.
I can see what people say about consistency. Some times, the players look really good and other times they seem to lose focus. Igiede continues to impress. Wagoner looks little more steady in her hitting. And I can see the potential everyone talks about with Alexander. When she made clean contact with the ball, it's impressive that she is only a freshman. Setting was a little suspect. Lang did well finding the hot hand in Igiede but a few of the sets to other players were a little off, which contributed to hitting errors.
I am looking forward to seeing the team develop this year. I think the potential is there, but they need to string together good plays throughout the match.
As for West Virginia, Ell was truly impressive. I wasn't quite clear why she started setting in the match given she was hitting very well. West Virginia may be really good a couple of years from now when all of their freshman are upperclassmen. Not sure how they will do this year in the Big 12 and how that may hurt Hawaii's RPI, but will also be fun to keep an eye on a team that is starting so many young players.

I will say that, after the 0-3 weekend against tough competition in Texas, I think Robyn has done a good coaching job to get 2 sweeps of solid teams back on the islands, which should help rebuild confidence.
