LONG BEACH STATE (2-1); BOISE STATE (2-0); NOTRE DAME (1-2)
The Series: The Beach vs. The Broncos
Long Beach State and Boise State will face off for the 10th time in program history. In a series dating back to 1984, the Beach leads the all-time series 7-2. LBSU won the first seven-straight meetings, but Boise State has won the last two. Last season, the Broncos defeated the Beach, 3-2, in a gritty five-setter at Bronco Gym in Boise, Idaho. This season, the Beach looks to bounce back and keep their record against Boise State undefeated at home.
Scouting Boise State
• Boise State comes into the Walter Pyramid with a 2-0 record after having started the season with a pair of wins over Saint Mary's last weekend. • The Broncos swept Saint Mary's in the season opener on Friday, August 26, then defeated the Gaels in four sets on Saturday, August 27. • Jordan Miller and Lauren Ohlinger led the Broncos in the opening weekend with 3.43 and 3.00 kills per set, respectively. • Setter Ashley Hayden paced the Boise State offense with 10.14 assists per set as she led the squad to a .260 attack percentage. • Defensively, Allison Casillas logged 4.14 digs per set in the back row, while Chey Day posted 2.00 blocks per set at the net. • As a team, the Broncos are averaging 13.0 kills per set, 16.0 digs per set, and 3.8 blocks per set.
The Series: The Beach vs. The Fighting Irish
Long Beach State and Notre Dame will meet for the eighth time in program history and for the first time since 2010. The Beach leads the all-time series 6-1. When playing each other in Long Beach, Calif., the Beach leads 4-1. LBSU has also won the last two meetings with the Irish as Notre Dame is looking for their first win over the Beach since 2004.
Scouting Notre Dame
• Notre Dame brings a 1-2 record into the Long Beach State Tournament as the Fighting Irish dropped a pair of matches to Texas Tech and Mississippi State last week, before holding off Milwaukee in a five-set win. • Avery Ross is the leading scorer for the Fighting Irish as she is averaging 3.33 kills per set to go along with 1.83 digs per set. • Phyona Schrader and Harmony Sample split setter duties last week with Schrader averaging 5.17 assists per set and Sample averaging 4.00 assists per set. • In the backrow, Hattie Monson collected 60 digs for an average of 5.00 digs per set, while Schrader is second on the squad with 2.50 digs per set. • At the net, Charity McDaniel leads the way with 1.29 blocks per set, while Lauren Tamoff is right behind her with 1.00 blocks per set. • Notre Dame is hitting .192 on the year and averaging 11.4 kills per set.
About the Beach
• Long Beach State kicked off the 2022 season on the road and came away with a 2-1 record at the Portland State Tournament. • The Beach earned a pair of wins on the first day of the tournament, then took No. 19 Oregon to five sets in a thrilling contest that saw the Beach come up just short of upsetting the Nationally Ranked Ducks. • In his first year at the helm, Tyler Hildebrand has revamped the Beach bringing in a whole new coaching staff featuring assistant coaches Cursty Le Roux and Kim Hill, while also adding volunteer assistant coach Jordan Molina to the mix. • The Beach return nine letterwinners from a year ago, while also bringing back three redshirts. Leading the charge of the returners is 2021 Big West All-First Team selection Katie Kennedy as well as senior libero/defensive specialist Dylan Dela Cruz, and juniors Nicole Hoff and Tia Chavira. • LBSU also welcomes nine newcomers to the squad in seven transfers and two incoming freshman. • Seniors Callie Schwarzenbach and Victoria O'Sullivan, along with sisters Morgan Chacon and Savana Chacon, and redshirt freshman setter Zayna Meyer look to make an immediate impact. • Long Beach State had a solid opening weekend as the Beach swept the Big West Conference Weekly awards as Morgan Chacon was named Player of the Week, while Dylan Dela Cruz was named Defensive Player of the Week, and Zayna Meyer picked up two awards as she was named Setter of the Week and Freshman of the Week. • The Big West Conference released the 2022 Preseason Coaches Poll and Long Beach State was picked to finish fourth behind Hawaii, UC Santa Barbara, and Cal Poly.

Tonight's match should be super competitive because Boise State returns a strong team and LBSU is playing pretty good this early in the season. I will pick LBSU as the winner because I am a homer but I would not be surprised if Boise State pulls off a victory.

I will pick LBSU as the winner because I am a homer but I would not be surprised if Boise State pulls off a victory. LBSU is very good defensively. Boise state will have to expect the ball to come back a lot. M Chacon would appreciate some help from the OH2 spot, but she alone can be very effective. I give the edge to LB. We will see.
