Very happy for Lazaro. Her hustle is fun to watch and she looks happy. Lazaro had to transfer to the third ranked in the nation to start, not good enough to start for USC last season Right? The irony.

The manner in which OSU stomped on Louisville and then had to eke past TN with two deuce sets is indicative of this entire season so far. It don't make no sense. Teams are their entire range of play. Fans bemoan teams not playing their best, but it's their "best" because it's not their norm/average. It makes sense since its early and a lot of teams have a wide range of play, nowhere in which they aren't themselves.

It's a long season. How teams are looking now is not necessarily how they'll look in December. I'd like this to be TX's year but I've seen them too many times fall short of expectations and/or get caught by a peaking team in the 2nd or 3rd weekend. agreed. i just think out of all the teams i’ve seen preseason, texas stands above everyone in nearly all aspects of the game. by the end of the year i’m sure a few more teams will give that same energy, can’t wait to see who will challenge them Three months away, in volleyball years that's an eternity.

Very happy for Lazaro. Her hustle is fun to watch and she looks happy. Have always loved her play. She's obviously good and plays hard with great joy. What truly made me an even bigger fan was bringing that same energy every time she went in the match as a serving sub in 2021...a three-year starting setter turned serving sub and still brought everything she could to her team. I just can't imagine...but from a spectator view, it was truly inspiring.

I would have liked to see Stanford play better, but overall I'm not too bothered. Louisville is a very good team, and good teams have a way of making other teams look bad. Stanford has a lot to work on, but there's time.
If I had to pick one aspect that bothered me the most: floor defense, covering loose balls, covering hitters, etc. We seemed to digress in that area today.
Miner has so much potential; I hope she continues to improve (location, decision making, connections with hitters).
I have no doubt that Rubin will keep getting better. She is definitely the bright spot to this season so far.
If we have DS's that are good enough to sub in for Baird in the back row, then we should be doing it.

Following both teams this year. And I honestly think that Stanford might have more talented top 7, than many teams - including Louisville. Just that they're just kind of unpredictable, performance wise.
Not quite so much with Louisville. The reason seems increasingly clearer to me. And I see a lot of the "shadow of the leader" vibe that permeates and characterizes the polarity of these two teams.
DBK is a great person. But during the match, she comes across to me as the proverbial silent killer. She's not real animated or overt as a coach. But she sits there on the bench, with her wry smile and steely eyed stare, like she just wants to crush something just for fun. Not only that, but her "we're better than you", and the "I refuse to lose" attitude really comes through. And there you have the conspicuous and visceral (to me) Louisville vibe.
On the other hand, Hambly comes across as the polar opposite as a leader. TBH, he sort of reminds me of the likeable, selectively engaging, but nerdy Gumby guy around campus. A brilliant volleyball mind for sure. But so analytical that it stifles creativity and oft necessary risk taking needed to adapt and prevail in real time. A genuinely nice man who certainly feels fortunate for the riches hez realized at Stanford...for Hambly, in the form of loyal and extremely talented players/recruits, and security of his position. Nonetheless, he just comes across as unemotional, journey-focused, and faith-in-the-process type, rather than primarily engaging in the energetic heavy grind and the employment of hard focus on winning, as the essential precursor measurement of success. There is no other way for me to describe this Stanford team vibe (shadow) right now.
Stanford had the unicorn power in set3. But I never doubted that Louisville would get the W tonight.

I remember many years ago when Amaya Tillman was still in highschool, she was rumored to be recruited by Stanford. I don’t know whether it was true or not but we might have lost on a great talent.
Louisville was simply the better passing and defending team. They are like the Italian women’s team of early 2000’s, not the tallest but with great all around OH, athletic middles, a great libero and setter and fantastic coaching. Just a good symbiotic relationship between their block and defense and passing.
They should easily be the #2 team in the country right now next to Texas.
Stanford - well, after this match I think it’s about time to let a DS play for Baird in the backrow. She just shanks so much balls.
Who would have thought Stanford will end up with 3-3 win-loss record in preconference? I thought the sure win was only against Florida.

I think it is now highly likely that Louisville will be a regional seed along with Texas.

Wow, What a match. 24-26, 25-27.. so much fun to watch. I wonder what it is when a team wins the first two sets, loses the third and wins the fourth. It just happens so often.

I know she's been a mess a lot of time offensively but aiko jones doesn't get enough credit. pretty sure she blocked more balls per set than any opposite in the NCAA last year including kipp who's imposing block seems to always be mentioned. aiko also averaged the same amount t of aces per set as akana did in 2021. even when she's not producing offensively aiko is putting a lot of pressure on the opposing OH

[br Looks that way I think Texas and Louisville will be 1 and 2, id like to see stanford sneak into 3rd or 4th by the end of the year but that could be wishful thinking. those are the current top 3 teams in my opinion rn

That, will 2.0 BPS, is a pretty good match in my opinion. And so many of the comments about her on here were negative ... Oh well. People see what they want to see.
