It's the Michigan Wolverines vs. the Mississippi State Bulldogs in a battle of teams both receiving votes in the AVCA coaches poll. Game time is set for Friday, September 16th, at 7pm EST.
Michigan, hailing out of the BIG, enters the match with a 7-1 record, winning it's last game 3-0 over North Carolina. They are led by 6'1" Junior OH Jess Mruzik (averaging 3.75kps and 2.46dps) and 6'2" Senior MB Jess Robinson(2.78kps). Robinson is also the nation's leader in hitting percentage at an outstanding .539% clip.
Mississippi State out of the SEC also brings a 7-1 record in to the match, their last contest a 3-0 sweep over South Alabama. The Bulldogs are led by 5'10" Grad Student RS Gabby Waden (4.11kps and 2.18dps), 6'0" Senior OH Lauren Myrick (3.54kps and 2.36dps), and 5'10" R-Senior S Gabby Coulter (11.21aps and 2.82dps).
Fun fact: This is the first meeting between both schools!

If Darty plans on DSing Gabby instead of Shania, I might have to give the slight advantage to Michigan. Coulter needs to work on setting Waden in the back row more. Maybe they would work in some pipes when she's back there with Jeffcoat. Still not convinced that Coulter is better than Oerther.

Watch (B1G +) Live StatsTournament CentralThis will be the first match played at the Crisler Center this season and will feature a reunion of the 2012 Final Four squad. This will be a good test for two teams that were both bounced in the first round of the tournament last season. Go Blue!

What are most significant wins or efforts for each team this season? Michigan has had a pretty easy non-con schedule so far; their best win was a sweep at UNC last weekend. They were pushed to 5 by a scrappy Loyola squad and dropped a 4 setter to Duke when Gracie Johnson had a career night with 28K. I'm excited for this match, these are similar teams with terminal pin hitters, shaky passing and questions at setter. When they are on, they can beat anybody; when they are off, it can look really ugly. Go Blue!

Michigan is dragging Mississippi State in this 1st set. 5 aces for the Wolverines and it's only 19-10.

Michigan takes the 1st 25-16. Lots of errors and free points from MSU put them in a hole early.
