IMO usd loses any chance of hosting in the tourney if they drop this match Hosting a regional? Or 1st/2nd round? Cause it's 100% not the latter.

I was at the game. There’s actually more people than I thought. USD really struggled with only 2 hitters at the front. Edwards kept getting blocked. She needs to learn how to tool the block or hit high. LMUs middle are pretty athletic and fast to the pins. USDs offense got predictable. I think they play better when they are playing high ranked teams. Hopefully, they respect each opponent moving forward.

USD needs to come out and play to their strengths and not settle into playing down to the opponents. By that I mean the errors and lackadaisical effort by USD was just awful today. They just thought they were going to roll over their opponent. It was not until Blackwell got the yellow card in the 5th did I think USD wanted to win instead of not lose. LMU has a new team this year with quality players and will be a competitive team in the WCC. Give them credit for their effort on D and hustle. They are always good with Bareford setting and Geissberger playing, but come on USD? Letting it go 5 was sloppy and a breakdown mentally. San Diego wakes up finally in the 5th and starts looking like the team that beat OSU and Pitt by wanting to win and showing what they can do. They only really beat LMU in the 5th. They played like they were just sort of waiting for LMU to give up along the way. USD needs to have that same fire from the start. They were definitely living on the edge today. And that is not going to get them where they want to go.

LMU could end up a Top 50 team, that's not a regional hope-ending loss. It'd also probably be better for them to beat BYU twice and have a loss to LMU rather than split with BYU and beat LMU, for example.

I could see LMU stealing a match or two from the top teams and making their way into the tournament. I'd love to see that happen after a messy couple of seasons these past few years.

And that 3rd set, first they shouldn’t have blew a 5 pt lead, and did everyone realize that we ran out of subs and we only had 2 hitters and the ds in the front row rotation?! They just couldn’t overcome. Learned from mistakes hopefully and hey it’s a mark in the win column.
