Houston (9-2) at Tulane (5-6) Wed 9/21 2:30pm CT Only making this thread because there is a 2:30pm match on a Wednesday. Why. A conference match. Can anyone explain? With UConn leaving in recent years, there are now eleven teams playing volleyball in the AAC. Each week, there is one set of travel partners that play mid-week. Then on the weekend, the "odd-team-out" (which is Cincinnati) plays the two travel partners, one on Friday and the other on Sunday. Thus, each week each team plays two conference matches. Right, I understand that. It was the same way last year. There were Wednesday matches. What I don't understand is the TIME. This did not happen in the past. Next week, Memphis plays at SMU at 1pm(!) on a Wednesday. Why did the conference decide to move from Wednesday night matches to 1pm-2pm matches on a Weekday when people are at work and athletes have classes that even the home teams are missing? Is it because of travel?

Neither does the PAC-12, who had a lot of Wednesday matches in years prior. The only exception is during Thanksgiving Week, you will sometimes see very early matches on Wednesday because it's a holiday weekend and there's generally no class.

Is it because of travel? Travel sounds right. Some of the Wednesday matches are in the evening (WSU and Tulsa, UCS and USF, both less than three hours drive apart) and some are in the afternoon.
