Am I reading things right - is Michigan running a 5-2 with Scottee Johnson and Maddie Dowd? Seems to be working for them...

Since JFO became head coach at OSU these teams have played 5 times (including a Spring 2022 scrimmage); the Buckeyes have only dropped one set to Michigan over that stretch and that one went to extra points. For the most part, this is essentially the same group of players squaring off again and this Buckeye lineup has absolutely owned the Wolverines.
The biggest difference for Michigan in 2022 in the insertion of senior setter Maddie Dowd into the lineup as the backrow setter in a 5-2 with Scottee Johnson setting in the front. Dowd has an instinctual connection with Junior MB Jess Robinson (she was her setter in club) that opened up Robinson's offesnsive game in the non-con and led her to the leading hitting percentage in the NCAA. But a curious thing happened last weekend. Sophomore MB Jacque Boney, Michigan's best blocker, found her groove and recorded 23K at a .528 clip and suddenly Michigan had a multi-dimesional, dynamic offense. All of that of course is predicated on solid passing, and Michigan will need Murray and Mruzik to hold up in the backcourt.
This will be an uphill battle for Blue. After Saturday's performance I fully expect Emily Londot to hit .600 with 1-2 errors and zero SE's. OSU should be primed to avenge that Nebraska loss. Michigan will counter with a Wednesday night Maize Out at Crisler, offering free pizza to entice the students and hopefully a packed house.
Michigan has been playing well and I'm hoping they can hang around and compete in this one. Go Blue!

I'm going with Michigan on this one.. Boney was fantastic last weekend and Robinson has been consistent all year and they didn't drop a set last week, and that was all without Mruzik going off.
I expect this to go 5 and Michigan comes out on top but they are gonna need Mruzik to go off for 15-20 kills if they want a chance and their middles have to continue playing like this, which puts a premium in ball control, but Hannah Grant is so good at that! (Grant is also leading the B1G in Service aces/set)
not only is this Michigan team tops in hitting % they are second in assists per set & kills per set in the conference along with being second in opponent hitting % (behind ONLY Nebraska) but not by much (Neb .133% while Mich opponents are hitting only .139%) they are also second in kills and assists allowed.
Michigan leads OSU in virtually every category (but those numbers might be skewed by OSU's competition)
one interesting thing to note here is that OSU is dead last in blocks per set and with a fiery michigan offense. they wont pull this out if they dont have the blocking to help them

The Wolverines are coming in hot. I saw that they were ranked in this week's volleytalk poll.

A big test for this Michigan team. Can they come out and perform well in back to back matches? Or will this be another Michigan Meltdown?
Cautiously optimistic but I’ve seen one too many of the latter in the past years to be all in just yet!

Candles, doves, dragons have all failed me.
Time to start burning leeches like the Red Woman.

How did Ohio State get slated with 4 consecutive road matches to begin B1G play? The scheduler graduated from the University of Michigan.
