This match is at a terrible time for me (college football), but I'm hoping to watch it anyway.
To me barring an upset of Texas somewhere along the way, the KU/Baylor matches are the most important matches in the Big 12 this season. If one or the other can sweep this series, it puts them in the driver's seat for a top 16 seed. I don't think a sweep is mandatory for either team, but going 0-2 would not be good. Both teams are going to make the tournament, so no concerns there. KU would have a more difficult time hosting the first two rounds with a 1-1 result. I think Baylor may have more talent. Don't know. KU is definitely more experienced. Not sure about Harrison's status for Baylor.
Baylor has had 3 freshmen win Big 12 FOW honors already - setter Averi Carlson, OH Alexis Dacosta (Edit - it wasn't Dacosta, it was Simpson, see houstonbear15's correction below - thanks houstonbear!), and OPP Allie Sczech as listed above. Lauren Briseno is the best passing libero (2.5 on 266 receptions) among Power 5/top 25 teams in the country according to Volleymetrics.
KU is led by all around spectacular 6 rotation OH Caroline Bien. They also have 3rd year freshman Ayah Elnady out of Egypt as a 100mph somewhat undersized OH, and OPP London Davis who is coming off an incredible 22 kill, no error performance (.647) in a 5 set win at Kansas State.
Both teams have a match tonight (Wednesday, Sept 28). Baylor faces off against Iowa State in Ames at 8pm central on ESPN2. KU travels to Norman to play the Sooners at 6pm central on ESPN+. IMO KU faces the sterner test.

IMO KU faces the sterner test. Great summary! I’ll add a few things: Harrison hasn’t been in any of the pictures that Baylor has posted recently of travel to Ames. I’m still unsure what her injury is, but I’m thinking concussion. Baylor should be okay without her against ISU, but I’d be worried if she’s not available this weekend. These are both good blocking teams- Kansas at 6th in the nation at 2.9 b/s and Baylor at 8th with 2.77. Kara McGhee leads the Big 12 and 3rd in nation with 1.6 b/s. Baylor does miss Harrison’s block who has quietly become one of the better blocking outsides. Baylor is the better serve and pass team, led by Briseño of course. It was actually Simpson, not Dacosta, who won the second ROTW award for Baylor. Maybe she gets her chance this week, but it’s probably time for Carlson to win it again soon. Kansas had a great environment for their match against Texas. With the timing of the game, not sure what the crowd will be like but could be a factor.

IMO KU faces the sterner test. Talking about this game now seems premature given the obstacle Kansas has tonight at Oklahoma. This looks like a 'trap' match - Kansas just came off an emotional start to conference play against Texas and then playing their in state rival. Then have the 'big' match against Baylor on Saturday. Oklahoma is a much improved team this year and should be ready to go tonight.

I didn't go to this year's Texas match, but I have gone to most of them over the last 10 years. Texas is different. For one thing - Texas will bring in a lot of fans for the game (spread out everywhere in the gym), while I suspect Baylor will bring in the usual allotment of fans for a road team. Texas (like Nebraska before they left the B12) - also brings in a rival big time program name that will generate more interest from the casual Kansas VB fans - more students, etc... This is probably the best time for it being this Saturday - there isn't a good time. The Kansas football team is at home against Iowa State for a 2:30 kickoff. I think they wanted an opportunity for fans to attend both games - with the football game being the centerpiece. I don't live in the Lawrence area anymore - but I am guessing there is a tremendous amount of excitement over the Kansas football team right now. I actually thinks this may help attendance/interest for Kansas VB - but they had to be 'smart' in the time for this match. The other option was to make this a night game (after football) - but I don't think that would increased the # of fans showing up.

But the Hawaii fan threw it up there, and I’m excited about the match, so I decided to comment about it. That OU match is without a doubt a trap game. They look different this year to me. More talent. More confidence. I still think KU pulls it out, but it’s not the slam dunk it has been in the recent past.

I will have alcohol with me tonight... This is a KU beatdown of OU so far. Hey - I have just witnessed winning the first two sets then losing then next two in the past couple matches. So, I will wait before I start giving high fives. Kansas played as well as possible in set 1. Oklahoma self destructed in set 2.

Davis wasn't any good tonight (she was good in the 1st set) and everyone else was great. Go figure. No idea what to expect - I would say it helps when you don't have to rely on the same 1 or 2 players each match. Megan Wilson is a heck of player for Oklahoma.

But they're still young. You can tell they don't let go of the previous point real well. I really like Turner. She doesn't get much notice, but I feel like she's for sure one of the better setters in the Big 12.
