Are people really thinking we can get to the final four with this squad? We have no one close to super star status and I don't see anyone having a breakout season like we saw recently with Arina or this year Akimova. JT can't seem to recover her Tokyo form, the setters are solid but not outstanding. Plummer seems to be frozen at OH and there just doesn't seem to be enough time for a rookie to steal a spot. I wouldn't expect a performance like we just got from Nebraska but I see tight five set losses to the teams with that star closer. No moral victories or horse shoes for the returning gold medalists. Just the fact that whatever the Tokyo magic that team had is lost and has not been replaced. Super star status? Like Egonu, who finished outside the medal rounds. KYK, 4th. Boskovic, Bronze. The two teams that played in the finals were the best TEAMS. And that’s USA’s whole things. If there’s any system built around winning without a superstar, it’s USA.

I don’t think USA has beat a team with a super star since Tokyo lmao. They don’t have the balance anymore. Plus the teams with the stars are better now than they were then. They have gotten absolutely TORCHED by the stars actually since. Boskovic dropped like 33 hitting above 400 in the wc semis. Egonu dragged them through the mud in the bronze match a day later too. They couldn’t stop Vargas at VNL either. They can’t even stop Stysiak who went off at Olympic qualifiers😭

JT can only match the top opposites if her teams passing and setting is goated. She can’t carry OOS like the others.

Im not being a hater, i love me some JT.

Had better stats than boskovic but boskovic took over in the 5th and JT was nowhere to be found. She has to prove she can clutch out the 5th sets and be the monster the big ones are. People don’t fear her the way they fear the big dogs yet but she has shown she can be quite excellent in the right system

How's the depth behind JT look? Anyone challenging for Drews' spot? Someone tell Karch that my girl Steph Samedy will at least try to dig a ball.

Tokyo was all over the place in general for obvious reasons. USA was also a set away from finishing 4th in the pool. They caught fire in the medal rounds and dominated. Brazil also got a SF match against Korea, just wild. While Italy-Serbia was a QF. I thought Russia was a decent team too.

There were much much more dangerous KYK teams. That one was mediocre, but no taking away their big wins over Turkey, Japan, and DR. I was happy for KYK’s final Olympic hurrah.

Not that she fits this definition of super star, but Kelsey has been rounding out very nicely as a Larson/MBH replacement. Her LVF stats have been very, very good. If Larson somehow finds form, she can fill the MBH role while Kelsey takes on the former Larson role (very good passer, occasional magical OOS terminator).

And at times she is. Then she lets us down so hard that people want her off the squad. Until those performances stop happening the cycle will repeat. When shes good, she is really good. Ps. I miss MBH so much

If Peyton Caffey singlehandedly keeps PTT in the Sultanlarligi does her name come up?
