The ncaa kinda *wrecks* usas chances at developing an elite international opposite. Sure JT is pretty good but she’s not what she coulda been I don’t think she’s really ever going to be in the top tier. The ncaa can’t develop opposites well Why? Players who just graduated from NCAA tend to have harder time to play 6 Ro OHs than Opp because of passing. IMO, it’s more about individual athleticism to become an “elite” Opp. I don’t know if anyone from NCAA has the athleticism to compete with Egonu, Haak, and Bosko. Well part of it is USA's best attackers are never attacking from 1 and 2 (nor are they defending from there) So instead of having years of playing and learning those positions... they have to make the switch overseas... where's there's a lot less time dedicated to the technicalities and development of those positions. USAV having to compete with the WNBA doesn't help. Can you imagine if some of those WNBA players had committed their careers to volleyball?

The main reason egonu, boskovic and haak and people like gamova are or were great is because of height and or jump. To be a great opposite you need to be able to jump high or contact the ball high and hit hard. This is why there is a tier 2 ceiling for players like JT, karakurt and stysiak. They just are not athletic or tall enough, JT is the only one I could see surpassing that ceiling, but she would have to change a lot about her game and work hard in the weight room

At least Poulter isn’t an attacker but I imagine her road to recovery to be a long one. Doubt she’s ever the same again, few are.

Yep. Before that, with next level potential, was Barboza I believe or maybe Megan Hodge? Sad for her.
