Whoever leaked the photos has issues. At the same time if one of the players was my daughter I would be telling her she is just as guilty and there shouldn't be any finger pointing. WTH were these girls thinking letting someone take their pictures with their tops off thinking it would never make it to the internet. Poor decision making on their part. Hopefully this will be a life lesson for these girls and the volleyball community. What a dumb take.

The only focal point here should be the horrifying invasion of privacy for these young women. Take your "well, what were they wearing?" attitude elsewhere. Honest question, if you are one of the girls in the background of multiple of these pictures not participating in the group shots, literally fully nude with your name in big white letters above you while at your locker, are you upset at one of your teammates that you are now completely exposed on the internet with your name attached in a photo you did not consent to as you were just trying to get dressed post game?

I heard about this via TikTok yesterday, I was wondering when it would become more widespread. It's sad for the student athletes. Shame on the scumbag who leaked the photos.

You're creating a circumstance that we don't know anything about. You're just looking for somewhere to assign responsibility to these young women, rather than put full blame on the person that invaded their privacy.

It is horrifying, but it's also poor decision-making in this era to let "compromising" pics be taken...especially in this context. I guess you should be able to trust everyone in the locker room. But what if you can't, really?

That is indeed a fair question and if my daughter were to be in a situation like that I would not be too happy. Too many people take photos already and plaster on social media without notification. Only with nudity its much worse. It also goes without saying the a$$hat that put these materials online needs to be prosecuted.

You're creating a circumstance that we don't know anything about. You're just looking for somewhere to assign responsibility to these young women, rather than put full blame on the person that invaded their privacy. Without question the person that leaked the photos deserves a heavy punishment and even prison time. Within 45 minutes yesterday all of the pictures and videos were getting posted to at least 10 different reddit threads that I knew of just by posters sharing links to where people could find the pictures after the mods were going crazy deleting and locking threads while banning people for sharing. My friends made me aware of it and we reported as many threads and posters as we could and I truly commend the mods in multiple different threads for acting immediately and trying to minimize the damage. It got to a point where posters were not just sharing the link anymore, but straight up posting each individual picture from the entire album and putting the girls Instagram handles underneath each post. In multiple pictures there are girls that were not in the group shots completely and totally exposed, not involved in the pictures, seemingly just trying to change at their lockers after the match with their names in big white letters above them and are now collateral damage. If that was myself or any of my kids at this point, I would be pretty upset that trust and privacy of a locker room was broken where pictures of them extremely vulnerable were taken without their consent.

But it was someone IN THE LOCKER ROOM, so how can you trust your teammates with their phones after that?!? Ick. Bad situation...made worse by what happens whenever they find out who leaked them.

I disagree. It is horrifying, but it's also poor decision-making in this era to let "compromising" pics be taken...especially in this context. I guess you should be able to trust everyone in the locker room. But what if you can't, really? The University announced a police investigation into the leak (I assume it is the campus police conducting the investigation). Unfortunately, it is very likely that it wasn’t a hacker from outside, but someone in the circle of one or more players who somehow got access to the photos. That would be doubly difficult.

Another honest question, if one of these girls in the background that did not consent to the photos gets rejected from a job, or goes out into the workforce and is gossiped about in the office, could they bringing a civil suit against one of their former teammates for a non consensual picture that has now made it around the internet and unfortunately could live on for some time?

One of the articles I read on it this morning mentioned they believe it came from an alumni's phone, or an acquaintance of that alumni. It did not say if it was an icloud hack or if the folder was shared on purpose or accident.
