Reading through long after the match is over and everyone has gone home, but I can't let this one pass: Inexperience?!? She was an All-Conference libero at Baylor! SMH... Did Baylor play in s 6-2 as well? Did Shenal have extensive libero action previously with this current group in a game that counts in the standings? You are overanalyzing again. That's absurd. ---------- Adding, the article in the Milwaukee Journal reminds us that last night wasn't even the first time Bramschreiber has played libero against Minnesota IN THE Field House! It was the THIRD time! LOL

Loberg is so much better then Emily Ehman as a game analyst. Gotta smooth out her delivery a bit. A couple times she could have been more efficient with word choices. But Ehman is super annoying and Grace does a better job reading and explaining the game. They are certainly a contrast in styles. Loberg could be smoother, but (watched the PSU vs. OSU match) Ehman is all smooth and really not much thought sometimes. She could be so much better if she'd just pause, rest and think. Using repetitive superlatives and saying "every time!" about a player who, the play before, didn't do that at all makes her look less than intelligent. The difference reminds me of an interview that Tara Lipinski and Johnny Weir did about calling figure skating at the Olympics, and that they started to learn that it wasn't about filling the air but letting the performance breathe and only adding only what they would really add to the broadcast and nothing more. That was when they were the alternate broadcast and not the NBC top line one and everyone was switching over to them because they enjoyed it more. It's a learned skill but an important one.

Loberg speaks too fast, relatively speaking. Maybe you guys don't notice, but I do.

Wucherer's and Wenaas's hair color, leggings, and numbers are too similar to keep them straight at this distance : ) Yes, TV announcers all year have mixed them up. Just call them "W" and you'll be all right -- unless, of course, people think you're talking about Bush 43.

Receiving a serve or defending back left doesn't really change all that much, no matter who's to your right or in front of you. And she has the experience of an All-Conference libero on a top ten team doing those things! If "With THIS CURRENT GROUP" is the standard, then nobody EVER has very much experience. You may as well add"... on a Saturday night two nights before Halloween". OMG, she has no experience doing that AT ALL!!!

Assuming she has been able to practice all season, she has plenty of experience, not to mention her previous P5 experience of several years playing Big Ten teams several times.

Shanel fit in seemlessly, which is what I expected. The one downside is that our OOS attack wasn’t quite as potent. Loberg mentioned that we are hitting over 0.200 on attacks off GG sets. Pretty sure that didn’t happen last night off of Shanel's sets.
GG with a leg injury of some sort according to match notes. I don't think they have estimated a return date. GG is a big part of why the 6-2 makes sense.

It's ok. Let GG rest. None of the games in coming 2 weeks worry me.

Shanel has the whole week to work on bump setting to the pins. Let GG rest; we’re gonna need her down the stretch.

Watched the match just now, great win by Wisconsin despite a pretty bad 3rd set. Thoughts: 1. Love Bramschreiber, I thought she was great defensively and had good 2nd ball contact. I think she's a solid upgrade from GG (was she out sick/injured?) but would like to see GG still play in a DS role. Based on today, Bramschreiber seemed like a steadier presence back there.
2. Danielle Hart is such a fabulous blocker.
3. Franklin is a beast. Didn't have her best match hitting percentage wise but she can really put balls away and is probably the heaviest hitting outside Sheff has had at Wisconsin. Her ability to produce on the left is probably the biggest reason why I think Wisconsin can compete for a title this year.
4. Big shoutout to Loberg, I think she's doing a fantastic job as an announcer. She really understands the game and can identify what a player is doing well/wrong with ease. That's not an easy trait to do. Probably has the makings of being a great coach but I'd prefer to keep her as a broadcaster for a while.
5. Mel Shaff has improved a LOT from last year and earlier matches this year. Her ability to get the middles involved has improved immensely.
6. I didn't think McGraw had a particularly strong night. She's seemed a little off the last few matches I've seen of her. She's still quite solid but I thought she missed some digs that she normally picks up.
7. The difference between Ashburn/Hammill is quite remarkable right now. Izzy has made strides this year and is setting at a higher level than starting the year, while Hammill just can't connect with her hitters. The location and tempo are consistently off, and I'm not wowed by her defense. Smrek is too good of a weapon to be hitting .216 on the year. If Izzy's block isn't getting abused by leftside hitters, I'm still a big proponent of a 5-1 and sitting Crawford/Smrek in favor of Smrek/Hart in the middle and DRob on the right.
Overall a really solid win for Wisconsin and a great week overall. I'd love to see Franklin get consideration for NPOW with 2 excellent performances against Nebraska and Minnesota.

Badgers just beat Nebraska and Minnesota and everyone is still trying to tell them they are doing it wrong.

Anyway, glad we're not playing the gophers again. I never look forward to these matches. Will be interested to see how the gophers finish out the rest of their season.
