I know Caylen's had a lot of recognition as Big West FOW a few times. But between Caylen and Meyer (LBSU setter), who do y'all think has a higher chance at this point of getting FOY?

Gotta think Caylen has the edge. Meyer may be on the floor longer but Alexander has been a force for the most part in big west play and put up good numbers in the head to heads

Does it ever come from 3rd or 4th? Just curious

I think Alexander and Meyer will be Co-Freshmen of the Year. Alexander has won more FOW honors, but Meyer has many SOW honors. Both are very deserving! I think if its just one player, Alexander is the front-runner especially if Hawaii wins the conference.

I have a stupid question. Why does Meyers get all the setter of the week award when LBSU is not even in top 3 in a lot of the categories. Are people voting for her because she runs a “flashy” offense? Is it like getting a QB of the week award because your offense throws the ball 70 times a game?
Here are LB’s offensive standing in the league….
Points——4th Hitting %—-5th Assist——3rd Kills——3rd Aces——-7th
It’s not like LBSU is lighting up the scoreboard offensively yet Meyers gets all the SOW award.
Kate Lang leads a team that is first in hitting %, total assists and kills with a MB leading the league in point scores and hitting %(Amber Igiede) yet Lang doesn’t seems to get much recognition.

Players of the week are voted by the SIDs, not the coaches and are based on the stats for the week. And the weekly stats can skew in favor a certain players. For example, a couple of weeks she collected over 100 assists because games went 4 or 5 sets instead of sweeps. I would argue a similar bias sort of exists for a player like Alexander who can show a number of kills over a freshman setter who is collecting assists but account for very few points. All that said, I personally really like Meyer. She kind of reminds me of Lexi Zimmerman, the setter from Michigan that played a while ago. The yearly awards are voted on by the coaches and I'm sure they know how good Lang is. They see all the intangibles that players bring to the court, not just the stats.

Lol i think you answered your own question. I like Meyer because she’s flashy but yea I think that’s about it. She’s not necessarily polished and she’s for sure not a better setter than Lang. Might be the most offensive setter in the conference though but I’d have to see those comparative numbers
