Wow, holy %*$#. First, I died. And then I had to go to the Boulder PD and give a statement about the robbery I just witnessed.
Amazing comeback and win, Ducks! CU played amazing, their block was all over us and their pins were tooling and carving around the block effortlessly. Big change in the 4th when Mutiri got hot. I also think Neal coming in made a big difference. It looked like it was too late for the sub to matter as we were already down a bunch, but she got a big stuff on the X in our comeback (which had been scoring automatically all night), and had some really effective block touches that FINALLY slowed CU down a bit and go into D/transition. There just weren't a ton of diggable balls before the closing run. The stat sheet impact was minimal, but blocking is the one aspect where one or two plays can have an outsized effect and change the way CU hitters approached the game and shift momentum. Glad we have so much depth - would like to see us be quicker to make changes (though I can tell the connection wasn't there on the offensive side).
Glad Oregon won without playing their best. We really rely on the backrow attacks to spread the offense and punish the block for loading up but that didn't happen tonight. Poor efficiency, and it's not like CU was focusing on it, a lot of the D balls we hit out only had 1 block up. Definitely need to fix whatever was going on with that.
On to Utah. GREAT WIN, SCO DUCKS!
19-9!
I think, in terms of the Utah game, it'll be a good thing for the extra day and extra travel in terms of prep and rest rest, but it made for a vulnerable Ducks team. Glad they were able to pull this one out.
Stanford usually takes Monday off too. However, with the Wednesday USC match they probably practiced on Monday/Tuesday and took Thursday off.
