Gametrack is (not surprisingly) stuck at 9-7 in game 1.
MSU is up 2-0 at the break: 30-27, 30-24.
Katie Johnson has 16 kills through two games (hit .500 in game one and .400 in game two). That's about all I know- the game isn't being broadcast on local cable for some reason.

MSU sweeps, not sure of the last game score. Might have been 30-25.

Katie Johnson is for real. Saw her play last year in Michigan against the Gophers and she looked just as good as Schram. She's a very good athlete.

Johnson ended with 27 kills (.426) and three block solos. The final score was 30-27, 30-24, 30-26. Good start for MSU

Wow, Katie Johnson had one hell of a night. MSU's record for kills in a three game match is 28 (Schram tied it last year). It is good to see Johnson play so well. The most impressive part is her hitting percentage, she really struggled with that last season.
MSU still has a lot of question marks that they can hopefully correct. Schatzle had a decent match 10 kills on .318. Wallin has been kinda slow to start though. She hasn't been playing long since her ACL injury so hopefully that will work itself out as the season progresses. Digs seems also a little low, but they are still outdigging the opponents.

Isn't Wichita State expected to be one of the front runners in the Valley this year? If so, this looks like a pretty good win for MSU. A sweep of a solid team should help them gain some momentum. Johnson looked like she had a lot of potential last year, although she was kind of up and down, as you might expect from a freshman. I noticed that the Spartans had a ton of solo blocks. Are they having the outsides block solo a lot, like Minnesota did last year?

I think that the loss of Ausburger from Graduation does hurt them big time. She was the backbone of their defense. I can see Coach LAMBO scratching his head right now. ESTRELLA

BTW, I think we talked a lot about Katie Johnson in the spring, didn't we? She was the one I liked at Palos Heights, I think.

Don't forget WSU also lost Lara Geer to back injury this season. In my opinion, a huge loss for WSU. The loss of both Lara and Karen Augsburger are causing all sorts of defensive issues for the team early in the season. I think they will get them worked out in time, but it has been a tough start for WSU.
