Badgers might lose 1 set. That’s it.

I got sent to the endodontist to have a root canal last week. It wasn't too bad, and I had no pain or issues afterward. Even if the Badgers do find a way to win this match, it is Unhappy Valley, so even a match with a happy ending would probably be less pleasant than my root canal.

Bad feelings from years of abuse at the hands of PSU. (The 2014 regional final comes to mind...) Here's hoping the Badgers don't carry any of that baggage, gird for war, use all of their weapons and pull this one out. Oh, and Minnesota pulls a reverse sweep on PSU the night before.

I mean, except for the year of the flu Thanksgiving 2019, we've won the last 4. The girls don't know Badger history against PSU except that they've won while they've been around. Mystique of Rose is gone. Mystique of PSU is gone. Rec Hall is still loud.

This match is designated by Penn St as a Silent Set night. Here is some background from last year. onwardstate.com/2021/11/04/penn-state-womens-volleyballs-silent-set-returns-november-6/I hope WI gets to 9 1st. That is when I will start to make noise. By Matt DiSanto 11/4/21 4:02 am Penn State women’s volleyball will once again encourage fans to silently cheer this weekend as the team hosts its second-ever “Silent Set” in support of hard-of-hearing communities. When the Nittany Lions host Michigan State on Saturday, November 6, fans are asked to remain silent from the match’s first serve until Penn State scores its ninth point. That number is no coincidence, though. Senior right-side hitter Jonni Parker, who wears No. 9, was born with a rare condition that only allows her to hear about 40% in her left ear and 45% in her right. She’s worn hearing aids since age 4.

need MJ for this to work or Cash is gonna murder Izzy Wisconsin likes to start with Izzy as their first server, for obvious reason. That puts her back row for the first three rotations. Last night at least, PSU starts sets with Kash at front left, to have her front row for the first three rotations. That is, most of the time, Izzy isn't across the net trying to defend Kash, Robinson is. Of course, Penn State can spin the wheel to change that.

If Hammill doesn’t play, I suspect PSU will at some point spin the dial to take advantage of the mismatch. I wonder if UWs weakness on the left side block last night was because they were cheating the middle blocker to Izzy’s side. They wouldn’t necessarily get more blocks, but they could make the back row’s job easier.

Not confident against the top Big Ten teams with Izzy having to play in front row.
5-1 Penn State in 3 6-2 Badgers in 5

Not confident against the top Big Ten teams with Izzy having to play in front row. 5-1 Penn State in 3 6-2 Badgers in 5 Alternative take (with similar result): I don’t think Izzy’s blocking looked that bad. Good form and timing from what I saw last night. Issue seemed to be getting off the net after blocking and being ready to set. Locations were off in transition after Izzy had gone up to block.

I think MJ is back in the 6-2 tonight. She might have a touch of the flu, but PSU staff & players are running around trying to prep for both systems today……and I don’t think that is entirely coincidental to her being under the weather…..
