Wait...who's lubing? Me or the Badger fans? The badger fans, my bad. The ones who are all whoa is me even though they are still a big favorite to win imo When it comes to games pitting two upper division Big Ten teams there is no such thing as a BIG favorite.

I find it ironic that Badgers fans spent the first half of the season begging for Izzy to run a 5-1 and now we’re pleading for MJ to come back to run the 6-2.

Badgers definitely have a chance with Izzy setting 5-1. In many ways she is the more mobile, fluid setter and usually sets the most consistent ball. She is the best server on the team. Her defense can be lights out. Her head never drops - she drives. I would probably be a touch more worried if it were Izzy who went down with the flu.
I think the issue is how she manages to carry a weight she really hasn't been asked to manage before, and that she hasn't trained to handle. She may be fine on the block, but it is definitely an added burden to be on the block, and then to set in transition as has been mentioned (though GG helps). There were a couple times when she could have attacked or challenged at the net as a setter and didn't because she has been so used to being back row. Her one setter dump came flat footed from the back row. With Demps in the back row (who played great by the way), suddenly there are two backrow attack options at the same time, which could be good but seemed a little confusing. Then there are the hitters. Smrek has been hitting off Hammill mostly. She looked OK against Rutgers, but I never know what looking OK against Rutgers means. Izzy seemed to be setting Franklin like she was setting Orzol, who likes more room off the net. Then there is the adjustment of the block and the backrow to the new lineups.
Badgers are still slightly favored in my view but fans have reasons to be concerned. People have argued for a while that the 5-1 should return. There are benefits. Consistency in leadership. Demps back on the floor. More serving subs. But they haven't trained for it and it's the sharp end of the season. It will be interesting to see what happens.

No one is begging for Hammill to come back. If Izzy were out instead of Hammill I'd still pick Penn State in 3 running a 5-1. Speaking of earlier in the season I'm one of Demps biggest fans and (She was one of the Badgers best performers in the championship match). Running the 5-1 has her seeing the court more. Also Hammill at times has just not been it at all so it's natural to be critical. Furthermore we found a way to win 13 straight matches running the 6-2. Kind of hard to just flip a switch (runnimg 5-1 again) especially against a team running on all cylinders in Penn State.

She is truly not good at that competency.

It was a different situation pre-season. Running a 5-1 is obviously a deplete combat effectiveness now after 20ish games of practical experience.

She is truly not good at that competency. She doesn't pass - or at least doesn't have to. We still have three passers when she is back. One OH in the backrow, one in the front, and GG. She is mostly playing D, serving and hitting out of the back - preserving 4 options in the 5-1 even when the setter is in the front row. She served well, and covered the court very well in my opinion. Not too many swings, but she scored once or twice in unfavorable situations. Sees court well when in the back row.

Penn State in 5! Nittany plays well at home and Kash started to mix up her shots during both matches this weekend! the Middle Production has been on a roll recently! Wisconsin has been on a tear recently as well, which is why I expect this to go 5 (last 2 matches in Rec between these two have gone the distance) 2019: PSU won in a reverse sweep & 2018: Wisconsin won the match with the 5th set going deep into extra points) B1G Girl Volleyball 120 sets would be a long long match

Should be another good one tonight! Penn State has been playing inspired volleyball recently and they are always tough at home. On the other hand, Wisconsin has been looking like the best team in the B1G (for me, they have looked better than Ohio State…especially after OSU’s loss to Maryland) and a team that could definitely make a run back to the Final Four. Hoping for 5 sets of great volleyball!
