This was a great win for us. MS had all ready played 3 matches and it showed in the first two games. We were just trying to figure out the basics and were playing with little fire. Game 3 we started to put together some better plays and defense. Both games 3 and 4 we started out with a couple point lead, gave it away and were down by a couple around the 15 point mark and then reeled them in and won. Unfortunately for us, we tried the same strategy in game 5 and it nearly cost us the match. Sandell was just amazing 30+ kills and about 28 digs. Hendrickson is a whole different player this year. She had 20+ kills and 30+ digs. Dutro had some goos moments but also made some errors. Also, at least right now she is no threat to dump which needs to change. (She tried it I think at most twice the whole match.) I do like Dutro's speed. San Jose is the libero and she had some good plays but she also has some work to do. Our middles were not a huge factor partially because we often weren't passing well enough and also because Dutro would sometimes take a great pass and send it to Sandel in the pipe instead of going to the front row. I talked to both Megan and the Bog O after the match and asked them if they wre trying to prematurly age the Gaucho fans which they both thought was amusing. Megan has already lost her voice from yelling. Brett Quirarte has taken the starting opp position away from Johansen. Lauren McLaughlin has found a spot serving and in fact was the server that was most responsible for getting us the win in game 5. Overall I have to say that given the travel schedule and that we were playing a team that already had 3 matches under their belt, this was a very good win for the Gauchos. Most important, we showed we have heart. Down 2-0 in games and then 14-11 in game 5, we found a way to win, and I think that bodes well for this team. Oh, and ib, you can now rank UCSB ABOVE Missouri St.

Was the bag still there? or did you go back to your motel and drop it off? I was gonna ask why you didn't stick around for the Florida/Dayton match

Missouri State, unranked and unmentioned takes your #15 Ranked Gauchos, on a NEUTRAL court to 5 very close games and this was a 'GREAT WIN' for you guys?? Hmmmmm, interesting.....are you sure that in your previous life you were a PR guy for George Bush and his current FEMA director??

You're missing a lot of things beachman, but that is probably not a discussion for this board.

Southwest Missouri State, Missouri State, whoever this was, I am not too pumped up about going 5 w/ them. Usually the Gauchos are hot to trot to start the season since they haven't had school yet, I label this win as scary. Very rare that a Gaucho can agree w/ the Beachman

I'll try to reserve judgment until we see how we do against dayton and how SMS(oops... Missouri State) does against Florida.

This was a fantastic match. Unranked or not, Missouri State is a very good team and I can see them in the NCAA tournament, if not winning the MVC. Very physical, very solid block and very well coached. O'Connor is a joy to watch. I forget their names, but a couple other girls really are quite good, offensively and defensively. I like the makeup of their team. Credit UCSB for coming back, that was a lot of fun to watch. Both teams played very well defensively, but UCSB stepped it up a notch when they had to late in the match. Sandell can hit the crap out of the ball, though she had a lot of errors today. I would attribute that to opening match. She's gonna be tough for teams to stop. I also enjoyed watching Hendrickson and Blackshire(seems like she got her hands on every other attack by the Bears, she really controlled the net).

Is this the same UCSB that is ranked 15th and the same Missouri Sate that doesn't even make the top 33? If so, somebody should be moving way up or somebody should be moving way down!
