It's good to see Tugba back from her injury. She also got some points but girl needs to get back to her pre-injury performance. She was barely jumping. Hande performed well in tie-break, which is nice to see. but i'm so over Hande right now. And Ayca as a libero... Can we just stop please? Also both setters were bad today, as in Cansu and Elif. Elif isn't great normally anyway but today she suuuuucked. Not quite sure why Elif. She's never proven to have a very high ceiling, whereas Cansu at her peak is pretty damn good. Elif is tall 1.90 compare to Cansu’s 1.82. So she can block. Also she’s 22 and Cansu is 26. Cansu is constantly playing Problem with Elif is that she doesn’t get to play much during the season she was on bench most of the time. If she works a lot and improve herself and gets to play during the season she can be number 1. I think she’s got a lot of potential if her pass quality improves. Santarelli is trying that but they need more time. Cansu’s floor defense is also not amazing, add that to her being short, if Elif improves her setting i see Cansu on the bench next couple of years. Or bring back Naz idk 😂

For reference, Wolosz is listed as 181, Maja at 183, Hancock at 180, and Macris at 178. I'm also not worried about age as it pertains to longevity. So many setters (including the ones listed above) enter their prime past 30. If we're talking about potential and performance ceiling, I'd probably agree that Elif has certainly more to go. But I also expect Cansu to improve (or at the very least become more stable) and has shown a fairly high ceiling. Mostly my point was that I'm curious what Elif is showing in practice, because her in-game performance hasn't matched what Cansu has been able to do in the past. It's not like the matches she's started are purely for development; they're kind of critical games, so Santarelli must be banking on her performance to a large degree.

What i meant by age is that Cansu has 4 more years of experience on Elif. Both are young and they will for sure improve. Cansu is definitely the better setter here but Santarelli’s choice seems like it’s based on height, hopefully Elif will get better in time. If Cansu was good at the back as well maybe Santarelli would use her more but Cansu’s defense isn’t that great either

www.federvolley.it/node/126358(Machine translation) Good signs from the blue women in joint training with Serbia Florence. The first of two joint training sessions between Italy and Serbia in view of the start of the European Championships was held this afternoon at PalaWanny in Florence. The Italian women's team, who will open the continental competition on August 15 in the spectacular setting of the Arena in Verona against Romania, played five sets, winning all of them with the scores of 25-19; 25-19; 27-25; 25-23; 29-27 against the two-time world champions Serbia in a training that was useful for both teams to test their condition. CT Davide Mazzanti gave space to the whole available roster receiving positive signals both from the physical and technical point of view. At the start, Italy lined up with Orro-Nwakalor on the diagonal, Sylla and Pietrini OH, Danesi and Lubian MB, and Fersino as libero. On the other side, Guidetti's Serbia opened the test with Ognjenovic as setter, Boskovic opposite, Lozo and Busa as OH, Stevanovic and Aleksic at the center, and Pusic as libero. Attending the joint training, held behind closed doors, was Fipav president Giuseppe Manfredi, who came to Florence to visit the team. Tomorrow new joint training behind closed doors at PalaWanny with Serbia as the final pre-European gathering of the Azzurri ends.

hold up Italy won four out of five sets against the A team without Egonu?? or at least the first couple I'm sure the bench mixed in through the latter sets they won all 5 sets. Both teams played every single Player and apparently it was more of a training block thing than a competitive scrimmage ? Idk

The article does not mention Egonu or Antropova. (Both were supposed to be there).

A little surprised by this roster from Italy. Orro/Nwakalor seem like both big liabilities, and I wouldn't have guessed Sylla/Pietrini as the starting OH duo either. I wouldn't have pegged that team to have stopped Boskovic surrounded by even a C tier supporting cast.
