The portal window is just for declaration correct? But you can be bb pursued/make a decision at any point? Whether it’s open or not? You cannot be openly pursued by a coaching staff if you are not in the portal. That means no contact whatsoever with a school until you have entered the portal. You can decide on your new school at any time after entering the portal. The portal does not have to be "open" for you to make your decision. There are of course "backroom deals" that get made before some top tier players officially enter the portal, but for the vast majority of players, nothing happens until they're in.

Because I believe this thread is for actual transfers. The tea is for who is in, who visiting where, who has talked to who, etc…you know, the tea. Understand but putting such limits on volleytalkers is like herding cats...just saying ... good luck...

Question: When a SA enters the transfer portal does that sever their current schools scholarship obligation to them?
For graduate transfers intending to finish the current academic year at their current school, it seems their scholarship should apply thru the end of the spring semester if needed to graduate.
However for undergraduate transfers, the school seems at a disadvantage recruiting transfers to replace them, if they have to honor the transferer's scholarship until they make a commitment to a new school or to retire.

I believe it’s up to the discretion of the school/program.

In theory yes. If a SA chooses to transfer at the end of the fall semester then they only receive half the scholarship. If they decide to stay through the spring they should, in theory, receive the full amount. It’s up to the school and coach. The scholarship is a one year renewable contract.

If a player enters the portal during a semester, the school must honor it for that entire semester. However they can pull the ship after that semester ends. If the player enters the portal between semesters, then it can be pulled for the next semester. As stated above, the decision to pull is at the discretion of the school.

Some people went in the portal before the end of the season. There are now 870 wvb athletes total, 741 in since Nov 1. With the understanding that not all of those were scholarship players when they entered the portal, that's still a phenominal number. It's enough to stock 72 teams with 12 players each.

It's enough to stock 72 teams with 12 players each. 593 of now 876 are receiving athletic aid. So in the Pac 12, 31 goes down to 19 when you push the scholarship only button. Big 10 goes from 26 to 17, but one of those non-scholarship players started for Iowa so non-scholarship doesn't necessarily mean they won't be on scholarship somewhere else next year if they drop down, and others may give up a scholarship to move up.
