Oregon if nothing else, do it for Kansas That's like, not a team we're particularly inclined to do favors for this year. Do it for yourselves, Ducks!

I respect Oregon's OH, just not sure if they have ever met Nebraska's block. It can wear hitters down and frustrate them to no end. Excited to watch a high level and competitive college match. GO HUSKERS ! Oregon is #4 in hitting percentage in the NCAA (.298) & #9 in kills per set (14.27)
Nebraska is #6 in blocks per set (2.76) and #1 in opponent hitting percentage (.123). However they are #41 on total team blocks, not sure what that means. Can anyone explain being high on blocks per set, but mid on total team blocks?
Anyway, interesting battle between offense and defense.

Playing fewer sets will do that

The simplest answer is they've played fewer sets. Not saying that's the answer, but that would be the most obvious one.

this could be so fun I can't wait to watch. i truly think both teams are even when their playing well, oregon winning wouldn't be an upset in my eyes me at all. honestly this match and San Diego vs kentucky are the two most even matchups in the sweet 16 imo, I dont see any those 4 team winning if they dont play their best

Stanfords right side blockers are actually blocking about .1 more balls per set than Nebraskas on the season, .06 less per set than nebraska as a team and oregon handled us. we were without Francis our best blocker, but A. smith as a replacement is blocking the same amount of balls allick is. oregon has seen and been successful against big blocks, but they haven't seen a good blocking team that can dig as well as nebraska can I was just about to say this so thank you for doing even deeper research than I was gonna do. Stanford is #11 in the nation in blocks per set and Oregon frankly dominated. They did. At home back on September 25. Too bad they didn't get to play at Stanford. In the first 3 weeks of November, Oregon needed 5 sets to win at Colorado, and 5 sets to win when hosting both USC and UCLA. Nebraska is substantially better than those 3 teams, IMO. That's why I voted Nebraska to win this round of 16 match in 4 sets (although I would gladly love to be wrong).

The simplest answer is they've played fewer sets. Not saying that's the answer, but that would be the most obvious one. Nebraska has played fewer sets (104) than any other Big Ten team, and that's after eight B1G teams sat at home last weekend and watched Nebraska play seven sets.

MN is #14 in total team blocks and & #4 on blocks per set on 106 sets.
Nebraksa is #41 total team blocks & #6 on blocks per set on 104 sets. Even if they played two more sets at ~3 blocks per set, they still would only be #30 or something in total team blocks. Whereas all the other teams with high blocks per set are in the top 15 (even with lower set count). Don't understand the math on that one. 🤷

Texas has played 85 sets on the entire year. Using total numbers ends up being a worthless comparison. I’m not surprised that’s the correct answer.

I think we ought to crank out a "sets per match" metric to see which teams love chaos the most.

lol Minnesota sure, even if one of them is only three rotations, but Penn State?? One good outside doesn’t make it a duo. I’d take Oregon’s outsides over both of those teams. No, I’m saying us Big Ten fans literally saw Colyer and Nunneviller play when they lost to Minnesota and Penn State. Ok, excited for B1G fans to watch the best OH duo in the country for the first time since preseason? It wasn't even a dig, really. PAC volleyball is hard to watch for most of the country.
Colyer and Nuneviller are the most complete OH duo in the country. I agree that Texas and Louisville are up there, but Brooke and Mimi have the best all-around stats, in a tougher conference than the Big 12 or ACC.
Oregon outsides: Kills/set: 4.12
Digs/set: 2.45
Blocks/set: .46
Hitting percentage: .282
Texas outsides: Kills/set: 3.95 Digs/set: 1.25 Blocks/set: .53 Hitting percentage: .300
Louisville outsides***:
Kills/set: 3.25 Digs/set: 1.88 Blocks/set: .392 Hitting percentage: .295 ***I took out games where Debeer only played backrow, but obviously have to point out her injury here.
And this doesn't even take into account passing... Subjectively you may feel the others are better players, but again, not sure you can argue that they do as much for their team as Brooke and Mimi do. Plus, I'll always favor 6-rotation hitters and I think the fact that Oregon is so unbalanced as compared to Texas and Louisville actually makes Brooke and Mimi's stats more impressive.
