It always comes down to a variety of if's at this point in the tournament. Anyone can beat anyone on any day if they get the wrong combination of if's. What if Chausse and Jones both hit negative? What if Louisville has 15+ service errors? What if the Baylor middles each have double digit kills and hit over .500? What else would need to happen for Baylor to win? I hope McGuire tells the players to serve aggressively. They may serve themselves out of the gym but if they don’t, game on.

Yeah I mentioned in an earlier post that Baylor’s blocking and serving will be key in this match. They are very capable of going on big service runs but they’re also susceptible to lots of errors. The team that had 9 aces against Texas needs to show up. Also looking for the McGhee sisters to make an impact blocking. Elise is a very good blocker on the outside so hoping she can give Aiko a challenge. She’s got 16 blocks over the last 5 matches and lots of other block touches as well. Kara has been a blocking machine all season but she’s had a strong last 5 matches as well with 30 blocks for 1.58 blocks/set.

I just feel that Baylor doesn’t have the experience and offense to keep up with Louisville. I think they could take a set but Louisville is basically the same Final Four team even without Debeer they are so tough. Harrison is so good though and Carlson will try to push the tempo. I think Louisville in 4

Although I feel like Baylor has the edge in middles, I think the match will come down to the pins. Sczech is so up and down and E. McGhee is too, so it really depends on what kind of night they have. I think Louisville has the better set of pins. Should be a great battle.

Baylor pins are going to have to play smart and limit errors. I hope Harrison has a career night

The last 3 posts about Baylor are all pretty spot on. Baylor's pins will be the difference maker for them. Both E. McGhee and Harrison are capable of putting up big numbers, but they both need to be on at the same time. Sczech is a great piece on the right side, especially with her blocking, but she's not at the point where she can just take over a match. The three pins need to limit their errors and not hit so many balls out. Elise had two great matches vs. Texas. In the two, she averaged 4 kills/set and hit .358. I hope that she can find that consistency and firepower tomorrow.
The experience is another big factor. Baylor will play 5 freshmen throughout the match, while Louisville is expected to play 0. Baylor will have 3 freshmen and a sophomore on the court for 3.5 rotations. For the other 2.5 rotations, it will be 2 freshmen and 2 sophomores. The 2 sophomores are playing different positions than they did last year and one of the seniors is playing 6-rotations for the first time at Baylor. 75% of Baylor's digs and aces and 68% of passes are from a freshman or sophomore. Baylor's serve and receive game is controlled by youth.
McGuyre has talked a lot about the youthfulness being both a blessing and a curse but hopefully they play loose and with a chip on their shoulder tomorrow. Making it to the Sweet Sixteen after losing 11 seniors is a huge accomplishment and this team has nothing to lose at this point. It's going to take a lot for an upset to occur, but it's certainly not impossible.

No actually that is very impressive if McGuyre and co. I was under the impression this would be a rebuilding year (and to an extent it has) but to be back in the sweet 16 after losing so much talent says a lot

That was a wild realization. Losing Pressley, Skinner, Sedwick, Willams, Bramschreiber, VDM, and Anderson (and 4 other seniors) + the entire coaching staff… I get why people doubted if Baylor would even be a top 25 team. But many programs hope to get to the point where they can reload rather than rebuild. It’s looking like Baylor is getting there under McGuyre. DBK also seems to be heading in the same direction with Louisville.
