How does Florida win with so few kills and blocks? Are they just banking on teams erroring themselves? If that’s the case Pitt is a bad matchup for them… except for Dalton. I think part of it is they had a 5th set and that obviously affects stats. Lost a set to Kentucky 25-17. Could also be teams missing a good bit of serves against them trying to get them out of system? Not looking too far into that. Also used volleymetrics and that has been known to be wrong so let me take a double check there

Pitt gets outblocked by their opponents, per those 'last five match' stat? Florida is really tall... Correct they do get out-blocked. And yet they’re still winning because stuff blocks are only accounting for a few points a set

Florida is ranked 78th nationally in kills per set (for comparison Louisville is ranked 91st) and 9th nationally in blocks per set (2.74).

This is the one match that I think could result in an upset. Florida just has a weird way of competing at a level that's unexpected in the tourney, and Pitt has shown a few times that they get a little freaked out when the block is big. That said - Pitt could also say "f hipsterfilth" and just absolutely steam roll tbh.

It's a weird stat tho bc the better you are defensively, the less KPS you'll have. So it's good to compare the two stats side by side, always.

But also I was correct about volleymetrics messing up - the FAMU stats are jacked in that section. So I took out FAMU and put in Kentucky part 1 (which should benefit Florida's stats). Updating now.

Love those stats. Obviously there are other ways to score beside kills. LOU is a #1 seed with 91 KPS ranking. Difficult believe they can be only 91 (if that is in fact correct). But you can't just pump a bunch of #'s into a formula and think the team on the positive side of the ledger will win any one match.
I think this could be the most exciting regional semi. I see these teams as even. Picked PIT to leave this matchup victorious but if I filled out a second bracket I'd have prob picked FLA. Think they are slightly overlooked and could make their way to Final 4.
Or they could lose on Thur. Who the h$%& knows. But def looking forward to watching!

The same can be said for blocks per set and digs per set. Highly unlikely (damn near impossible) that the same team would lead both categories.

This will either be the best match of the day or a complete mess. There is no in between.
That being said, Pitt in 5 lol

Florida 3-2
Both teams will split the first four sets, with no side winning by more than 3 points, then in the 5th set, Pitt will take a 8-6 lead at the side swap before Florida uses 9-3 run to finish off the match... in the run Florida will pick up 3 blocks and an ace to seal the deal

Florida is known to getting their sh*t together during tourney time and as we've seen this season, they play good the first time they face their opponents. I think this match can go either way but one take away - whoever Buzzerio is matched up again can be a difference maker. Victoria is a great OPP blocker, but Markova with her length can shutdown Buzzerio so definitely going to be looking at that
