I like how they subtly throw shade at AU by emphasizing "REAL" pro volleyball lol honestly, I hate it. the "real pro volleyball" branding is tacky and only provides meaning to a small section of fans (Those that know AU/LOVB exist lol) trying to get a pro league going with social handles of 'realprovb' is weird and going to confuse fans when they try to find the socials of "Pro Volleyball Federation" (which dont get me started on that name lol) I still don't get the concept of 2 separate but very different pro volleyball leagues trying to start up around the same time. I can get on board with AU being a fun one-off event during the offseason. But PVF and LOVB really need to consolidate resources to create the best chance for a professional volleyball league in the states. Both seem to have $millions backing them, but if the resources were pooled, I think there is an even better chance for success. Is there a way both concepts could combine into one alliance, or are their models so different that they can't even consider it?

Is there a way both concepts could combine into one alliance, or are their models so different that they can't even consider it? AFAIK LOVB isn't going to have owners. So that model is going to be different. LOVB is definitely more of a project (trying to integrate youth clubs into it) vs just flat out getting owners and teams via PVF... PVF seems to have the advantage, because they have owners (or should have owners) that are willing to eat costs in the hopes of long term success.... LOVB doesnt have that and are counting on clubs/development for success. Depending on who the other owners are (and their amount of resources)... PVF looks like a better long term solution.

the thing that i am most curious about... is how are the initial rosters going to be determined?
is it gonna be a free for all, sign whoever you can?
or are we going to get a pool of potential players and draft them accordingly

Soooo... this new team is owned by the DeVos family, of Betsy DeVos infamy. Yikes. Also related to Addie Vanderweide…

I remember Laurie Corbelli from her days with the San Jose Golddiggers. Dude. You old. At least as old as I am. I was about to say the same thing!

I remember Laurie Corbelli from her days with the San Jose Golddiggers. I do too!! I went to a match with them against the Arizona Blaze! Arizona Blaze was only in town one year…😩 We’re you at the match when the R1 went into labor? That was me 🙂.

As a Michigander I want nothing to do with any DeVoses. This is disappointing.

It didn’t happen during a gold digger game. It was I think New York? Mary Jo Peppler was on the team. And no one but me actually knew. We did go straight to the hospital from the gym!

I remember going to two of the matches, I couldn’t remember the other team I saw the Blaze play, so possibly. Easy for you to remember the date of that one!

That's his brother's wife. This guy doesn't appear to be that political, at least per his wikipedia bio. He's made 3 political campaign donations, all to Republicans, one as recently as June. If this were my local team, no way I would support it (I realize there's far more terrible owners than him in the sports world though) Can we keep the political BS off VT?? You condemn half the country to own or support a pro volleyball team because they are Republican. GROW THE GAME!! it's a sport and doubt they will make alot off their investment so you're not hurting anyone but v-ball by being close minded

It beat out Jacksonville the largest city in Florida? Interesting, but hopefully will have a team here in Florida.

It beat out Jacksonville the largest city in Florida? Interesting, but hopefully will have a team here in Florida. In Lee's article link, it states they will take 6 to 10 teams, FULLY funded. Not like past financial failures. I believe the thinking is like my thoughts are ratings, not attendance, will carry this league. So Jacksonville is probably a good site with proper ownership funding. My thoughts are places that do not have alot of other pro sport competition where VB interest is high. e.g. Omaha, Louisville and the like. Not NY, Boston, Chi or LA. We'll see when they're announced one at a time. good marketing than all franchises at once. creates anticipation

It beat out Jacksonville the largest city in Florida? Interesting, but hopefully will have a team here in Florida. that's just for media market size. Grand Rapids area is the #41 sized media market in the USA. Jacksonville (43), Oklahoma City (44), Louisville (49), New Orleans (50), Memphis (51) were the cities/markets below them.

Grand Rapids makes sense, it's a decent sized market with no major league professional teams and a solid, historic volleyball fan base. I'm old enough to remember when Western Michigan was a national powerhouse in the '80's. That side of the state is where the sport took root, the Lake Michigan beaches fed the interest and for many years the best players and clubs were in the Grand Rapids area. I would love to see a professional team take off here, regardless of the league affiliation or ownership. As an aside, Western Michigan's 1983 match against Nebraska I think still holds the single match attendance record in Michigan. Neat article about that match here.
