Overall I will look back on 2023 with fondness, sort of like the way I do with the 2005 season: two national runner-up teams that dominated throughout the season but just croaked in the championship match. I still regard 2005 as a great season with legendary players that dominated at every position, and the same will be remembered for this season. I think Nebraska had six different players who led the team in kills in various matches throughout the season. When was the last time this happened? 2005?
I’ll also remember the excitement I had going into this season. I don’t think I’ve ever been so hyped for a recruiting class than this year’s class. Parched from 2022, Husker fans needed a setter, who would run a more diverse and less left-side-dominant offense; a terminal OOS hitter; a middle blocker that could bring back a Stivrins-esque slide. How awesome that all our freshman lived up to the hype? Bergen turned out to be exactly what we all needed to replace 5 years of mid from Nicklin; Harper proved her prodigious talents and had the best freshman campaign as a Nebraska OH that I can remember; and Andi ended up having a freshman year that bettered Queen Stivrins’ first year statistically. The cherry on top was scoring Laney, who turned out to be my favorite player this season for her fire and unwavering hustle and grit. I was worried that Nebraska would lose its defensive edge with the graduation of Knuckles in 2022, but Laney was everything this season and played a major role in Nebraska leading the country in opponent hitting percentage for a second year in a row. Perhaps the biggest upgrade was Merritt, who had NPOY looks and will continue to grow both as a player and leader for Nebraska.
I’m really excited for 2024 with Pierce. She’s basically a really polished version of Capri Davis who can take over matches offensively. When I was down in KC for work, I went to one of Pierce’s matches, and IDK if I’ve ever seen a past or present Husker consistently attack at her touch point besides Davis (on her good nights). Pierce will for sure be competing for a starting spot next season.
While yesterday’s result was an unexpected bummer, this team still gave the fans an amazing and super historic year to follow and will continue to amaze in the coming seasons!

I get that people are shocked and unhappy with that collapse. But 2023 will go down as one of the most successful in program history. Volleyball Day, 33 wins, Big Ten Champs, National Runner-Up, all while starting four freshmen and being without Krause for half the season.
Our only two losses were to a Final Four team and to the National Champion.
People are justifiably unhappy right now, but we're going to look back at this season as a raging success.

And on one final note, let me say I will forever choose to be salty about these fifth year seniors. We are the one top program this year that hasn’t benefited from it, and now all of our FOURTH and FINAL year seniors have to face a whole new batch of fifth year seniors. To be clear, not hating on programs that are benefiting from it. But I am saying I am annoyed that we are not while the programs besting us are Didn't Stivrins take full advantage of her covid year and play as a fifth year senior? I didn't like that either, but what's good for the goose is good for the gander.

At a coaches clinic once, it was asked how do you address your team after a lopsided loss. The answer: your players are feeling bad as are you. So make it short, dont dwell on mistakes or problems, it wasn't our day, we have some things work on, see you at practice, we will move on and continue to improve.
As a fan, I feel that way too. Better days ahead. The cupboard is well stocked. GBR!

I just wanted to tell you it was cold in the arena and that's why we couldn't pass. I will also work to eliminate the transfer portal so we can prevail. Finally, I want to encourage more drunk middle-aged women with Karen cuts to go back to cheerleading because you did it so well in our semifinal (she literally ruined my experience of the games). Let's train you up the way we train up Huskers!

Don’t understand how Texas took apart the two best teams in the Big Ten. They demolished the Badgers and Huskers. Asjia’s time with the national team and her serve. She was something else tonight. but i still think that this Nebraska team was at an elite level all season and THE top team this season title or not. Okay. You lose in 3 to Texas and WI and you're the top team? If Texas would have lost to TN, do you think WI would have beaten you again? I want what you're drinking.

For anyone who has issues with Harper’s press conference. She is an 18 year old who had probably just played in the most disappointing game of her life 5 minute’s earlier. Y’all can have your issues with Cook, but to rag on a girl who is in this situation for the first time in her life and is speaking with I’m sure a ton of anger/heat/fire is sad lmao. People saying “i hope she never wins a championship” or laughing at what a very emotional girl is saying in a VERY emotional situation are the real losers here.

This is what I am not liking, if this was a Texas player saying this everyone would be all about it. You can tell this meant a lot to Harper, and even if she doesn't win ONE natty, you can tell she is driven to do anything possible to get it.

Also, that totally makes me respect her more. That’s the kind of athlete I want on my team: someone who sees a setback as a challenge to get better and has the confidence to match. That being said, I think 70 year old Cook’s comments were on the arbitrarily shady side.

Even if you believe it internally, you don't say something like that out loud. Can you talk about bulletin board material next year for Texas?

I think some people are making a sh*t ton of directed/pointed takes at individual players (whether its their attitudes or them flopping yesterday). Like i get you hate the program, but there is a lot of posts that are clearly will such malicious intent behind them. Like I know we have our own batch of bad posters, but like it’s honestly more likely i will see a post shtting on harper murray or lexi Rodriguez than i would for any other player in this position lmao
