It appears to safely say we need Murr and possibly an experienced DS without being there to watch this match. KCook just has to "shore up" our defense....but most of us already knew that. Think the hitting errors are more or less telling us why KCook went to a 6-2. Except for most of one season it seems Hugh just never ran a 6-2 no matter the situation. Who knows...if we might see that more often under KCook for other Spring matches For me I never knew Davis was really playing until the last two sets. This was all going off the Live Stats. Without a steady passing game our middle connection woes will continue. I am not sold on Davis yet. So besides Phoebe I would like another MB brought in for next season. davis is good and I dont think will be a weak point for them. imo, she and awoleye are plenty good to be a top 10 team MB duo, especially when players like landfair, wucherer, staff, and Murr are on the floor as well. An elite passer is what they're missing and should definitely be his top priority as of now imo. I think Davis is more than capable Totally agree with you here. I think the 3 current middles they have are more than capable. I think what this team really needs is another experienced passer to help out Landfair/Wucherer and Murr too in the backrow. I don't think Cook would roll with just 2 DS/libero in a team.

Out of curiosity does somebody have the stats with Shaffmaster/Davis conncection and the McGhie/Davis connection?
This is not meant to be a SLAM to Davis on my part. We all know Shaff's best connection last season with our middles was with a 6'7" middle who is now gone.
I was happy to see KCook run a 6-2 when things were not going well for us in set 3. Tonight will be just as interesting.

I think they amount of reps gray is getting as primary lib will be very helpful in preparing her to possibly take that right back DS spot (I think cook will use one there). Of course he'll know more than anyone if she'll be ready and will recruit within the portal accordingly if she's not im sure. As for the MBs, there's a possibility he looks around there, certainly if he feels confident in at least two of wucherer / landfair / grays passing by the end of the spring imo. Interesting thing will be how many middles 'better' than awoleye and Davis enter the portal... I dont think there's gonna be many And can't forget he tried to get an oppo but she ended up elsewhere... so I wouldn't count out him looking there as well. if you can't fix the passing fully... why not just get 3 pins who can consistently put balls away? This also will hugely depend on his opinions of Crowl, Hanson, and the freshman after the spring season

Fortunately, they still have a bit of time and a few more games to evaluate the current players before the next transfer portal period opens. I would expect probably 2-3 more players to join the team. I am not sure about the available scholarships though, most likely one available but maybe 2 max.

I might've said this earlier, but overall the team was 19-17 with Elise setting and 80-87 with Mel. Obviously there's a lot more to all of this, but I'm trying to piece together what I can with the box scores / PxPs

Anyone know why Taylor Landfair played only two sets first game and only one second game?

So what are our takeaways from these scrimmages? I go a little cross eyed when only reading stats… but from what I could decipher and the video clips Hawaii had - looks like Wucherer stepped up as an on court leader. Not surprised they rested landfair quite a bit. Hanson also seemed to be solid and may be good competition for Wucherer - passing was poor… glad Gray got some high level reps as a libero but can’t wait to see Murr with this team. Hoping KC gets at least one more DS 🤞 Wucherer must’ve been a serving target, how did Hanson do? - Minatee looks so quick on the block from the video clips, once she gets the hang of NCAA ball she could be a huge weapon. Very happy Davis had a string of aces too! Hopefully KC’s goal of tough serving is starting to take form - Crowl’s no Samedy but she seems like she’s a pretty solid OPP, I always liked her block but it looks like she’s stepped up her offensive numbers. Definitely need her to draw the block from our OHs - very nice to see Mghie set too! Curious how the 6-2 looked since we couldn’t watch… but nice to know he’s having her run the offense and they’re preparing to switch it up if they need to.

A few other things: - Wucherer's offensive number is very promising and she had 6 aces!? - The team has 14 (yes 14!) aces and 7 errors. - Minatee's numbers from night 1 to 2 are day and night and that is so awesome to see. - Crowl is consistent and had double digit kills with 11. Is that her first double digit kills?

It's a bummer there was no stream (and I know Hawaii has put on some high production ones), but nice that the stats go in depth per set. I'm glad both nights went 5, it's a good pressure simulator. Really like the numbers coming out of the middle (even though Hawaii's Amber got 20(!) looks) in spite of what I will assume was subpar passing -- somewhere between Gray not being used to covering the amount of floor that CC did and Wucherer being a target. This isn't a knock on Gray, in fact, it's fantastic she's getting quality reps. It's funny, the times she's gone in to lib have been trial by fire scenarios.
Murr is such a key addition to the team, especially since it seems there's been a hard "reset" at L. Again, any 2024 Ls still out there? I think it's slim (because she is also deserving of an L jersey) but in the event Gomillion comes to Minny it would help bridge the gap for the next L Keegan recruits since she has 2(?) years left.

Does anyone know why Chloe NG did not play? Teams always rest their best players during spring matches. Just kidding, I know nothing. She was dressed and appeared ready to play. I wish she would have gotten a little PT so we could see how things would run if (heaven forbid) Shaff was injured. Hoping maybe in the upcoming home match she’ll see a little time.

She’s a bit of a mystery to me. She didn’t even play in the gold/maroon scrimmage last year. Like I’ve never seen her on the court.
