Let me echo someone else’s statement about being sick of the transfer portal! No doubt, the ease of transferring is a benefit to players of all sports who find themselves in a bad situation, but it may be doing them a disservice as far as not learning how to overcome a situation that is, for one reason or another, not currently Perfect. Makes you wonder if, strange enough, you can build a more stable roster with all underclassmen transfer players. Then at least the players have to face the downside of sitting out a year when considering moving to another school. You obviously don’t understand the whole student athlete thing and how much power coaches wield. TP has evened the field a little at least. Abusive coaches get a lot of players to leave. Not saying Mike is abusive don’t get me wrong. It’s just that some old school coaches used the difficulty to transfer as a ticket to demand more and often crossed the abusive line. And I have no idea what you said in paragraph 2??

A lot of coaches I talk to think the portal will slow down next year after all of the COVID kids are gone. The portal is full of grad students that continue to eat away at playing opportunities for freshmen and sophomores....which in turn sends kids to the portal who have probably never had to compete for a spot in club or HS. Its a bad dynamic for sure but not totally the fault of the portal.

IMO NCAA made the biggest mistake when they extended eligibility. As with anything else the coaches went with where the incentive is. Incentive being having a 23 year old play instead of an 18 year old. 2021, 2022, and partially 2023 classes have born the brunt of this mistake. So obviously they will be transferring a lot. Everyone is playing the cards they were dealt, coaches and players.

At this point, I think North Carolina (and a majority of D1 programs) should focus on the future, now. Filling in for one more year with a Grad transfer MIGHT help this year, but focusing on the future now hopefully keeps your younger players in place. There are outliers, of course. San Diego went to the National Semi Finals with the help of Grad transfers, but they are paying the piper this year and most likely, at the very least, for the next few years. Baylor was always one that had great strength in focusing playing time on their younger players - that backfired after this year. There really are only a few programs nationally where a program can get a Grad transfer that takes them to a level that is worth it, in my opinion. So the Covid extra year deal is almost up - time for UNC to focus on the future.

Only thing I have seen is Yardimici has followed an AC back on social media and Thorpe had followed a player or 2.
I would assume some visits should be happeneing this week and that we will know more as people are seen on campus.

I personally don’t have faith in these coaches. They may sweet talk someone to come but then it’ll be obvious what the problem is and I expect them to leave. Let’s see if anything changes when COVID transfers taper out.

Mike is I know Most everyone in the mix for transfers have already had visits or are planning them this weekend. Many coaches dip out after the final four matches Thursday. Most are not staying for the final match. My guess is, if they do not have anyone coming this weekend they have already visited.

Final Four begins today. Good luck to all teams playing.
Frustrating given how closely and how tough UNC played Pitt and some other really good teams in stretches. Hoping that we can get back to the tournament in the next few seasons...
I am working on a 2024 Thread butttt no point in posting it yet until we see transfers in and out

New intel says Savannah Kjolhede is between UNC and Miami....
Heard that we were doing well on the Thorpe front but no other info. Still think we are in the running for Engelbrecht
