No. No. She was setting... she just wasn't Grome. Jenkins on the other hand... well Madden said it best there was one rally in particular that lane made me physically cringe 3 separate times Oof, hopefully Grome is back to her normal self for the AU match next week.

I’ll be honest, I’m not sure why skinner doesn’t ever bring in freshmen early for the spring semester. Seems like it would be advantageous to get them in early to get college level reps and practices in. Sarafa, Tuozzo, and Bultema should all see plenty of time as freshmen so let’s hope they adjust quickly.

Finally got to watch the whole thing. The biggest standout for me was Erin Lamb's passing(!?), girl was dropping dimes. Please dear lord let that carry over to the fall. Otherwise, a pretty sloppy and forgettable game, but hey it's spring. I said that too lol. Pretty sure she was the best passer out there for Kentucky.

I don't think people realize that this is hugely driven by the player... also melby enrolled early literally a year ago lol. there's a lot of things that go into it... I have a lot of friends who have gone through the recruiting process and committed to these top programs and it is a huge decision to make. skipping the last semester of high school to go to college early isn't appealing to A LOT of players. Some of them really want to finish their club careers with the girls they've been with for 5+ years, or experience prom, graduation, senior spring break, etc with all of their best friends. Also, some high schools don't allow early graduation. I know of two players on Kentuckys roster currently who asked their highshcool ab graduating early after committing and were essentially just told no. I think if you're expecting a freshman to take a big role it's a good idea... but I don't see Kentucky using more than 1 of the true freshman next season. a team like Nebraska on the other hand could very likely have 4 freshman playing key roles next season, so its definitely important for them

A lot of private schools do not allow students to graduate early and enrolling early can require some pretty big sacrifices by the student/athletes. I know it is very common for college football but they don't have 18s Club season they can play and if they are really contending for a starting spot in the fall being at spring practice and summer workouts is pretty important. Volleyball is a game where it is much easier to step in and play whereas football at the college level there might be 80+ plays a player has to know and have the ability to execute. While Volleyball is very much a team sport I do think it is easier to insert individuals in where needed if they have the skills.

Pretty solid showing by Kentucky against AU tonight. Slow start but really should have won set three up 24-19 and played a nice fourth set as well. I’m still not sure how high the ceiling is for this team, but they have some good pieces and a great class coming in this summer so hopefully Craig can put it all together.

I have an awesome question. What league would each AU player be able to play in? A1, etc.? Go...

Why would Sarafa and Tuozzo be seeing plenty of time on the court?

Sad showing: the AU starters out by middle second set: back up setter told not to dump anymore so Kentucky could tally a little. You beat a team by double digits twice and then put back ups in and you get an un-inspired effort from AU and you still cant pull one out: i feel bad for Kentucky: they were hoping to get a good experience: not exactly what they received. Coulda shoulda woulda third set:( blah blah. Of course nothing that happened today has one bit of reliability presicting how good Kentucky is next year. Hopefully they learn that a good serve and a good pass can be a big help! And hilley has gotten better since college💪🏽

AU still had a huge size and athleticism advantage on Kentucky so I thought they played pretty solid for a spring match during the second half of it. You act like Kentucky wasn’t rotating a bunch of players in as well to get everyone experience. No need to feel bad for Kentucky, we’re doing just fine.

There is definitely reason to be very excited for this UK team this fall. We have crazy depth and a really exciting freshman class along with returning multiple all Americans along with the transfer of a great player in Megan Wilson.
That being said. There were times during the AU match Kentucky almost looked like a JV team. In particular some plays by Goetzinger (a multi year starter), Rutherford (senior returning AA) and Lamb (returning player) were just straight up not Kentucky level. I wasn’t expecting Kentucky to win this match but there were just some missed plays and chances that were mind boggling for this group. (Hitting overpasses 10 feet wide, hitting the back wall on good sets, passing free balls backwards etc) and I’m not just going to use the “it’s spring they are still learning blah blah” because they have played this sport their whole life and pretty much everyone that saw real time last night was a returning starter so and I haven’t even talked about that 3rd set collapse…..
Overall, I am still very optimistic about this fall and think we are primed to have a better season than last years team (who still won the SEC and made the regionals) I was just pretty disappointed with the effort displayed and level of play by our girls. It just seemed too much like last fall where our entire season was plagued by error after error and missed opportunities and choked leads against the good teams.
Go Cats.
Ps Williams looked pretty nice out there in her limited time.
