Let's hope it's not too different from the current one. If it's not broken why try to fix it? Money, I guess.

Interesting. The Mikasa indoor ball was a big change in the panel design.
Mikasa BV 550C. Has a good ring to it.....not.

Let's hope it's not too different from the current one. If it's not broken why try to fix it? Money, I guess. Money, for sure. Looks like Mikasa has been one of FIVB's main sponsors for quite a while. Just look at FIFA and how they introduce a new ball (often objetively worse ones) every World Cup and the millions they make from that.
I saw a notice in an insta story this week (sorry not sure from who, one of the European teams I think), I thought they could be joking and didn't pay much attention. But maybe someone, somehow, got access to the ball. It looked quite similar, maybe somewhat smaller, but the photo was not very good, so take this with a grain of salt.
Similar to the hand setting rule change, I don't see this as a bad move (lets see how the new ball goes), but introducing it with short notice, in the middle of the olympic cycle, isn't the best way to introduce changes. I hope every pro and aspiring team gets access to the new ball ASAP, so they can at least train with it and adapt their game as needed.

How are we suppose to see the spin on the ball without "Visual Spin Technology"

THIS. The FIVB approved NORCECA 5VB5000 from Molten feels to me that it has the weight of the current Mikasa Beach Champ, but with much more grip (good), and more evident seams (good), but more bouciness (bad). I've never held a ball more slippery, except for replica balls, than the current Beach Champ. The worst ball ever, except for those suede Mikasa balls from the mid 80s, for opposite reasons of course. If Mikasa makes the Beach Champ grippier, it would be so much better for topspin serving, and for setting for those who haven't gotten used to the Mikasa slipperiness. You see hand sets on the Beach Champ slip right through the fingers of players from NCAA, or AVP, who are new to FIVB.

what is that... 8 panel? looks like three large and one small panel per half. I wonder what that would do aerodynamically.... will it fail to catch the air as much as the current Beach Champ? meaning float serving will still rule? Also look at the pronounced dimples. I'm holding a current Beach Champ and it show zero dimples. do the new dimples mean a new top layer material, which might also mean more grip?? Looks like it is still made in Thailand.

It looks to me like the photos show dimples on both balls, so perhaps those dimples are just from a bad image and not on the balls.

Is this you holding the ball? Where did you get the ball or photo from?

I've seen pictures of the ball from people I know that took part in a workshop with a nearly retired FIVB player. The dimples are real, as is the design
