streets are saying Byrd getting that opposite role over both Molly and Devin👀 thanks for doing this! also it’s definitely justified to be shocked at how little Ewert played last season. not to say I’m glad she rode the bench so much, but I do think it very much paid off in the end. I’m not sure there’s another setter in Texas history I would’ve wanted over SKT during the tournament. I know you’re young, however I have a one Hannah Allison on the line. Kthanks I’m worried the ball might’ve hit the Jumbotron in Omaha

He really isn't. Any chance madden gets to criticize Coach Elliott, he takes it. Maybe so. I like madden, though. He just has strong opinions, that’s all. I like his authenticity. His presence makes the forum more fun for me. ![](https://media.giphy.com/media/WqzLJkmchCS9q/giphy.gif)

She wasn’t breaking Jumbotrons when she went overseas briefly. And her consistent beat? A queen.

Not to mention it was a gamble not to get her more reps before the tournament. Just because the gamble paid off doesn’t mean it wasn’t risky. We could ask USC. And, yet, somehow a few posters think we will be just fine if redshirt freshman, Marina Crownover has to take over for Swindle in the event of injury or illness. Ewert was a fifth year senior who had started a couple of seasons at Colorado. That's a huge discrepancy in collegiate experience. I don’t disagree with you. If Crownover is our only true back up, and Akana ends up being the back up to the back, I pray Mari gets plenty of game time during the season.

okay also here's a midweek present for y'all I was very bored on Sunday and they hadn't taken down the scrims yet so I went through and tried my hand at statting Now let me be very clear, this is extremely mid and the view wasn't the greatest. Plus, for some reason I couldn't rewind on the reel? There's a very, very good chance I missed a couple of points or the view was obscured so I couldn't see exactly who passed the ball or who blocked or what exactly happened on the play. Take everything on here with a grain of salt but I did my best, especially regarding passing it was like virtually impossible to grade everything so I tried to separate by decent pass, obvious scramble passes, and then like shanks/overpasses. Also, somehow Swindle ended up with like 8 blocks which cannot be accurate but regardless that's what I got. I have the set-by-set breakdowns on the spreadsheet too. link streets are saying Byrd getting that opposite role over both Molly and Devin👀 thanks for doing this! also it’s definitely justified to be shocked at how little Ewert played last season. not to say I’m glad she rode the bench so much, but I do think it very much paid off in the end. I think you're being a tad bit overdramatic lol I too think it would've been nice to see Ewert play more? Obviously it worked out but still it would've been nice to see her with the Texas hitters He really isn't. Any chance madden gets to criticize Coach Elliott, he takes it. I see he didn't criticize the other Final Four teams. San Diego's backup setter had 2 (two) assists and the two backups for Louisville had 59 total (53 and 6). IIRC Pittsburgh used a 6-2 so not a valid comparison. Like football coaches don't worry at night about getting the backup QB more snaps, it appears top volleyball coaches don't worry about more playing time for the backup setter.

The fact that you even pulled that as a comparison is embarrassing and for the 5th time it has nothing to do with me thinking it was a bad coaching choice it’s just surprising she barely got any chances to set all season given how much better Texas was than 95 percent of the teams on their schedule

She basically only came in for late set substitutions along with Kahahawai Kahahawai would sub for SKT on the front row and Ewert would serve. The focus was always improving SKT’s comfort within the offense and her connections with her hitters. Hard to second guess that decision given the results, but it’s true Ewert didn’t play all that much given her stature coming in. She did get a ring, however. If you go and look at replays of some games, she was up front of the group on the "bench" getting the most fired up after a big point. She would be jumping towards the players on the court pumping her arms/fist in celebration. Oh definitely, she was the team's #1 hype man. In fact I suspect some of the bench cheers we see are from her, I don't remember Texas doing them in prior seasons.

If y'all think it shouldn't be 'public' just lemme know and it can be like PMs only) Swindle had 8 blocks?!?!!! YEAH BABY

Shhhhh don't scare Madden away, he said several pages back he was excited for this Texas team.
Madden is about to enter his villain era.
Or...his double villain era?

She was really good setting wise, absolutely. but we saw in the final four what can happen to really good setters that are a bit too short
