Yet you still criticize it again in a response. You've earned the hostility with these type of posts about Texas over the years and yes your intent is to frame it as either a bad decision or unfair to Ewert. Go try the poor me bit somewhere else. I think you're being a tad bit overdramatic lol I too think it would've been nice to see Ewert play more? Obviously it worked out but still it would've been nice to see her with the Texas hitters I just feel like a player of her caliber could have been given more time against the weaker teams Texas played given how strong they were everywhere else. Like under 50 assists on the season just seems crazy to me

She basically only came in for late set substitutions along with Kahahawai Kahahawai would sub for SKT on the front row and Ewert would serve. The focus was always improving SKT’s comfort within the offense and her connections with her hitters. Hard to second guess that decision given the results, but it’s true Ewert didn’t play all that much given her stature coming in. She did get a ring, however. If you go and look at replays of some games, she was up front of the group on the "bench" getting the most fired up after a big point. She would be jumping towards the players on the court pumping her arms/fist in celebration. She always had tons of positive energy, on the court and off. She was easy to root for for sure.

From Ewert's very positive attitude, she wasn't complaining about playing time.

I don’t mean it was an objectively wrong decision I’m just shocked she had that few assists. That’s a crazy low number. I just figured she would have had more setting time against lower ranked teams Personally I thought it was a fair comment. It is a low number for a multi year starter from a Pac12 team. And the Colorado teams she was on were pretty good. I didn’t have a problem with it. I was trying to give you a straight answer to what I thought of as a legitimate observation. I certainly had the same thought throughout the year. Not as a criticism per se, but just noting in my own mind how little court time she saw. She still played an important role, especially in the practice gym. And she was one heck of an insurance policy in case anything happened to SKT. IMO one of the best, most experienced backups in the country. But yeah, those amount of total sets for the year are astonishingly low. I agree.

okay also here's a midweek present for y'all I was very bored on Sunday and they hadn't taken down the scrims yet so I went through and tried my hand at statting Now let me be very clear, this is extremely mid and the view wasn't the greatest. Plus, for some reason I couldn't rewind on the reel? There's a very, very good chance I missed a couple of points or the view was obscured so I couldn't see exactly who passed the ball or who blocked or what exactly happened on the play. Take everything on here with a grain of salt but I did my best, especially regarding passing it was like virtually impossible to grade everything so I tried to separate by decent pass, obvious scramble passes, and then like shanks/overpasses. Also, somehow Swindle ended up with like 8 blocks which cannot be accurate but regardless that's what I got. I have the set-by-set breakdowns on the spreadsheet too. link(also should we gatekeep this? I don't want Jerritt coming for my head or something. If y'all think it shouldn't be 'public' just lemme know and it can be like PMs only)

I’m not sure there’s another setter in Texas history I would’ve wanted over SKT during the tournament.

Obvious you didn't follow the team closely or you wouldn't have run your mouth so stupidly. Remember SKT was not the returning starter and didn't join the team the previous season until 3-4 weeks into the season. So she had relatively little game experience with the returning players in addition to the transfers. Therefore there was a need to get her as many game action reps as possible, especially with the middles (Bergmark and Caffey didn't transfer in until the summer) where the connections needed improvement until well into the season. Add to this that Ewert also didn't transfer until after the spring. Also Texas is the 2022 National Champion, so Elliott made the correct decision. dear lord it wasn’t even THAT deep nor did I ever say it was a “bad” decision. You can chill out with the hostility. It’s just shocking that a setter of her caliber had less assists the entire season than some other teams setters that played in a 6-2 had in one game I’m so proud of her.

I think all the Texas fans were extremely appreciative of her at the end of the year, but I feel like sometimes it was easy for outsiders to look at the serving, passing, and the front row talent and be mildly dismissive of her contributions. I loved having her as our setter. She gave me a tremendous amount of confidence she’d put us in a good position to be successful point after point. I’m also glad she got so much time in the setter role as the starter, because I feel like that was extremely helpful for everyone involved.

MB: O'Neal, Bergmark/Singletary OPP: Phillips, Byrd S: Swindle, Crownover L: Akana/Halter, Heinrich With Barnes, Bunton, and Tomkinson all coming (hopefully?) in the summer, I wonder how this will all shake up. Obviously, Bunton is a likely redshirt candidate and will play as the fourth middle on the squad. Tomkinson is a lefty oppo, does that put Byrd back on the left? does she stay in the middle? stay utility? who knows?

Just because the gamble paid off doesn’t mean it wasn’t risky. We could ask USC.

I like madden, though. He just has strong opinions, that’s all. I like his authenticity. His presence makes the forum more fun for me.

And, yet, somehow a few posters think we will be just fine if redshirt freshman, Marina Crownover has to take over for Swindle in the event of injury or illness. Ewert was a fifth year senior who had started a couple of seasons at Colorado. That's a huge discrepancy in collegiate experience.
