Isn’t that when Skinner is in the back row, though? I need more sets going to her there. No 95% sure it's when Skinner is in the front and we play three littles in the back I guess I felt like against Washington State we were running Wenaas 4 rotations (never going to her in the back row) Skinner one rotation in the back row while Swindle was in the front, and then one rotation with all three littles. But I also may be imagining things.

Blech When I was in elementary our teacher gave all of us a project to interpret a metaphor literally and draw it on a piece of paper. One of my classmates chose “keep your eyes peeled” and drew it. I’m jealous of him to this day.

Just for reference to show y’all how good of a blocker she has been. She leads all setters in blocks per set I also like how aggressive she is with her dumps. I understand they’re not always landing, but I’d rather her be too aggressive and then dial it back, than be too timid and try to get her to take on a more aggressive mentality. I feel like she’s on a good path to improvement there. I feel confident that’s going to be a huge part of her arsenal, and by extension the team’s. she's has to keep those attempts in the court and maybe start varying her shots.

Ahhh I finally have a volleytalk account. Texas fan here. Here’s my thoughts. I know it’s super late but I don’t agree with Wenaas being benched. I feel like 70% of her sets are terrible. When she gets a good set she is actually really terminal and really smart. She gets blocked a lot because I believe she gets trapped set a lot.
I also believe her and Skinner should switch. Skinner should be the one hitting on the right not Wenaas. Also Wenaas needs to stay in the backrow to give us another attacking option. Her passing has regressed because she hasn’t been playing back there but I noticed against Washington State she had some good passes.
Kahahawai should definitely stay on the right! Idc if she didn’t do good against Washington State, she was atleast swinging and ripping balls. Even if they got dug she was still putting them out of system.
Barnes just has to go. I feel like in the spring, this team was so good and now that she’s on the court she’s so unsure on whether to take a ball and just messing everything up.

I feel like in the spring, this team was so good and now that she’s on the court she’s so unsure on whether to take a ball and just messing everything up. Welcome to volleytalk! It will be interesting to see what happens to all of those players. I don’t think I understand what you mean about Wenaas and Skinner should switch, with Skinner hitting on the right. I don’t know that I agree with Barnes has to go. I will agree it feels like the team regressed from the spring. But I don’t think Barnes is the sole culprit. In general I think setters struggle some at Texas because the staff wants to run a faster offense than the incoming setters are used to. Faster sets requires lower sets towards the net. There’s a lot less margin for error. Remember last year when Skinner and SKT struggled in the early season to find a connection. I also saw Gabriel constantly being criticized for the same thing. And yes, the sets were not ideal, but in my opinion the setters and pins had a narrower window for success, and often there’s simply no substitute for reps to get there. No shortcuts. I feel like we’re seeing a lot of that with Swindle. She’s not taking risks with her sets because on some level she lacks confidence with how she’s setting - and a lot of that is the transition to setting the way the staff wants her to. That’s at least my opinion. I’ll also say that Wenaas wasn’t extraordinarily terminal at Minnesota. We’re used to ultra terminal left pins at Texas. We’ve been spoiled by it, frankly. I’m unconvinced Wenaas is part of that same mold. Not trying to blame anything on Wenaas. Like you say, it sure seems like she gets a TON of crappy sets that are either traps or require tipping. Not necessarily trying to blame Swindle, either. She’s a work in progress. IMO it would help her if Texas ran an offense with less emphasis on how fast we play, but that’s not the Texas way. The idea is to get her up to speed so the team is playing their best by the end of the year, not playing their best in September. One match at a time. Let’s see how OU goes the next two days. I’m not emotionally prepared for a loss, but 5 set wins I’ll be fine with. Just need to win both of these matches, and let’s see if the team shows improvement after the week off. Also, so glad volleyball season is here regardless. I do want to enjoy every match in whatever way I can while I can.

Texas is #1 in the country with 3.21 blocks/set
The top 3 blockers on the team: Asjia: 38 Bella: 32 Ella: 27
I guess Ella is really, what is it today? 6'10"?
This is promising to see and a reversal of last year. If that’s the case, maybe the focus early on in the season was blocking, so now they’ll switch gears and focus on offense. If we can get our offense going (get more production from Wenaas or replace her with Kahahawai or Byrd), then I think Texas has a big shot of having a comeback season. Also, we need to find a way to work on the back row defense.. Hoping Barnes can prove why she was libero of the year for her conference for so many seasons. I haven’t seen a sense of urgency from her yet because she is being outplayed by Halter and Akana.

Has anyone noticed Whitney Launstein’s comeback post and she currently followed Texas Vb, Louisville Vb, and Minnesota vb?

But I feel like there’s been lots of miscommunication where she’s been the one involved. And idk I feel like Swindle looked amazing in the spring.

You need to stop spreading false rumors Ella is 6'11" I’m constantly impressed with Swindle on the block. I have a lot of confidence in her. It’s just going to take more time for her to hit her stride directing the offense. When she’s on, her serves are really wicked, too. She’s consistently putting the opponent out of system.

Hi there!! Also new, also a Texas fan. I've been a lurker for forever and almost continued to be a lurker (just now with an account). Then I saw another new poster and it's start of conference play, so I thought I'd jump in. Hook 'em!

Welcome new volleytalkers.
My advice is that you really think about what you type and send because we all get carried. I've had many instances where I've done it.
