i was just thinking about asjia o'neal & what an incredible player & person...i know we have two more home games, but i will not get to attend senior nite against tech...i'm just so proud of her...teary-eyed thinking of her leaving texas...asjia will continue to do great things in volleyball (& in life)...i know o'neal will be with the senior national team this summer & i'm hoping she makes the olympic roster here's to the slide queen & longhorn legend 🤘🧡...not done yet i'm happy i will get to see the first & second rounds in austin I wish the staff planned Senior Night better. It's always kind of an after-thought. Doing it the weekend of Thanksgiving where there will be a diminished crowd / low student turnout is unfortunate

No concern about Nebraska? I'm just so sick of the finals being in "Omaha" when it's really extended "Lincoln". With all the intricate rules that NCAA puts into the requirements (hotel, convention center, cost, walkability) to host the final four, I'm still stunned that Omaha consistently qualifies.
BTW for those who don't know (or care), Austin is going to demolish it's convention center built in 1992 and expanded already once 2002. They didn't realize Austin would be so popular for hosting conventions and then losing business because the site isn't big enough for the bigger conventions. So, they're going to mow down the entire center and rebuild it for $1.6B. Yeah, let's see how that works out.
But still it won't be enough to host a final four because of "walkability to cheap housing" will be an issue. Gobs of expensive hotels have opened up around the "old" convention center.
There are other cities in Texas that might qualify, but they don’t put out any bids. Also, NBA cities are hindered because the NBA is apparently not excited about having to move games around due to an arena not being available for a weekend. Which sounds silly and at least an objection that can be overcome. But that’s what people who know about this stuff better than I do have said in the past. I’ll also point out - painfully - that our last encounter against Nebraska in the postseason ended in a loss and that had very little to do with Omaha. Not to mention the last time we played in Omaha had a pretty good end result, even with a fairly hostile crowd. Omaha has a lot of competitive advantages. Empty convention space availablw at cheaper rates. Hotels within walking distance. A sizable arena with no professional sports to conflict with hosting matches. A local populace that will rabidly support the event regardless of the competitors. I do find the information about the convention space in Austin interesting. I don’t know much about local politics in the city/county, but there’s always been a fascinating and somewhat unhealthy dichotomy between forces that want to see Austin grow and those that don’t. It feels like the convention conversations may have fallen under a similar purview. In any case, Texas would either need to end up as the #8/9 seed to face Nebraska in the regional, or the committee would need to be motivated to spot Texas there whether they should be or not. I don’t anticipate either occurring. And at least as far as Omaha concerns, this year the final four will be in Tampa. Maybe we can see more final fours hosted there in the future. Apparently Las Vegas is going to get even more serious about bidding for NCAA events, so maybe that gets put in the rotation as wel. Edit - oh, and I think it’s the AVCA that ends up being the motivating factor for the requirements you’re referring to. They want their convention to coincide with the Final Four. I am hopeful that Fort Worth could get on the list. With the recent opening of Dickies Arena. It would be a great venue for the championship, not a bad seat in the house. Lots of hotels nearby and 20 minutes from DFW airport.

I think it's funny how several Texas fans (here and elsewhere) believe in their heart of hearts that the officials/refs and TV announcers are always against us; then, all other fan bases have the opposite belief that Texas gets all the favorable calls/breaks. It's a mixed bag, if you ask me. Not 100% either way. Folks need to stop with their paranoia just to spout off out of boredom.
