the in-house announcer needs get his "point Texas" worked out It was so bad tonight. Our literal volleyball brand is Point Texas but we can’t get our own announcer to get it right It throws off everything! (Still annoyed hours later lol) JERRITT: We know you read VT. Please tell the substitute announcers to STOP MESSING WITH "POINT TEXAS". It's the best call and response in all of college sports, the crowd loves it and why mess with a good thing?!?!!

At the beginning of the match, during the instructions I looked down and saw the "regular" guy making the team announcements and other things to pump up the crowd. But during the game, I noticed that the voice was different and there was this guy with a cowboy hat on announcing the full names of players being substituted and getting too much into that WWE type of announcing.
I thought, I wonder if the original guy had to hustle over to the MBB game at Moody make those announcements?

It was good to see Texas get off to a quick start in the first set against a quality opponent as that has not been our strength this season. That carried over midway to the second set up to 13-7 before losing the lead and the set in extra's 24-26. Team had to fight through an early deficit a couple of times in the fourth set to capture the win.
This match had a bit of everything as far as early dominance, losing a lead, momentum shifts, digging out of an early set deficit, and completing the comeback. A sweep is always good for so many reasons, but I would prefer this team be challenged (as long as we win) this time of year. With only 2 matches remaining at UCF on Saturday and at home against Texas Tech one week later, this team gets to "rest" their bodies a bit as far as not having back-to-back matches, and maybe heal any minor dings.

Post ISU:
1. I was able to convert a newbie into a Texas volleyball fan. She'd lived in Austin for 30+ years and had never attended a volleyball match, much less a college game, much less at the level of Texas. She texted me later that she was scouring YouTube looking for Texas volleyball matches
2. You could see that in the second set, after Swindle did a (successful) dump that the coaches told her to "refrain from that again". From my viewpoint, Hunt and Sullivan both jumped out of their chairs and approached the court. Hunt was specifically addressing Swindle
3. Texas did and didn't try to block the ISU setter's dump. JE had said before that if you expend an MB jumping up for a block, then that MB is pulled away from potentially assisting in a block on either pins. But, I did see a few short "ups" by the MB. Looked it up, the setter had 4 kills. Swindle had 3 before they told her to cut that out.
4. I kept muttering to pull Wenaas, who still became the #2 hitter in that game to Skinner
5. Emma, 20 digs. [chef's kiss]
6. I read on VT about Texas needing to watch out for player X, Y, and potentially Z. Mmmm, other than their setter none of those players stood out
7. I was thinking that ISU's coach has got to be one of longer tenured coaches in the Big 12. Looked it up: Johnson-Lynch (18 yrs), Bechard (25 yrs), Elliott (22 yrs)
Wenaas had a good match- she had 15 kills and hit .324! What more do you want? I've definitely criticized her too but, fair's fair. I feel like you’re saying the same thing. Hornfaninauston was saying he was muttering about Wenaas then he looks up and sees her stats which counters his muttering. That’s how I read it, anyway.

I agree. Swindle needs to establish herself as a threat but don't over do it. We have to put confidence back in our hitters.

Also Madi has to be POTY. What are the accolades besides from that? Defensive? Libero? Freshman?
Do we also have setter of the year? I think Libero and Defensive player of the year should be different.

I like her attacking and noticed a drop off after the first set. I wasn’t aware the coaches told her to cut it out, but it was noticeable that was doing it less. My issue isnt the frequency, but that she’ll do a bunch of dumps in a row instead of spacing the out over the course of the match.

Yeah, my thing with the dumps is that she has to be smarter and less obvious. After she stopped being dumping, the middle still jumped with her every time. There was one play where I thought for sure she was going to dump and she tossed it out to Wenaas for an easy down the line kill. She has to know this is v much on the scouting report so the middles will always be watching lol

I definitely don't know the perfect scenario(s) when Swindle should or should not attempt dumps. When the first pass is tight, it makes sense, but it's not unexpected to the opponent (if they're on their toes). When the pass is perfect, she has so many options but the dump is the least expected option to the opponent. But, as others have said, deception is the key.

Because she established herself early in the match as a risk to dump, the MB now picked her poison and that opened up better options for our attackers.

i'd like to describe for y'all something i saw last night during the match...something i'm not quite sure i've seen before (or i have and forgot)
at some point during the 1st set, jenna was in the front row at the left pin. she came up, took a swing - no kill, no stuff, play continued - but, when she landed, she hit the net. HOWEVER, she hit the net on the left side of the vertical out-of-bounds pole. i looked at the down ref expecting a net violation to be called but nothing. i saw him look up to the up ref, made a signal with his hands, and then play went on.
if my memory is correct and this sequence did occur as described, does this mean that it's okay to hit the net on the out-of-bounds side? or am i crazy person who is inventing scenarios on the webernets?

I recall this play as well. As long as there is no interference, the play will continue if a player touched the net outside the sidelines.
