Mid November takeaways and MY observations:
-Molly is our most efficient hitter right now. I see her error less and less. It was Asjia for a little bit but that connection is simmering down since teams are reading her well and have a game plan against her. I do see it picking up again with Asjia but Molly has the edge right now. -Asjia is a legend. Her blocking has really picked up/stayed constant throughout the season. She's had two recent subpar games. This is more from setting and teams really reading her. I haven't seen her get blocked so many times due to a low and inside slide set aka TRAP sets. -Ella's progression is going up but I really do agree with less dumping AFTER it was been established and very obvious. She's getting better at it but she's looking a bit the same in the beginning of the season. I think I still want more consistency but sooo much better. -Halter just continues to really outdo herself and getting better. Less mental errors and just more confidence -Jenna is still so flip floppy but less. Her shot selection is still questionable at times. I noticed she's more confident. I know she has it within her but, from her past play in Minnesota, her level of play can be unpredictable. I want a more consistent and smart shot selections. For a 4th year, this should be a given but it's not giving veteran. It's giving she's still getting used to her new school and role but we're in November and less than 3 weeks from post season. So...yeah. -Madi has less mistakes and is a baller. I'm so glad we have her. Her defense in the backrow has been really impressive. I'm glad back row attack has picked up a little more. -Bella: I'm so glad she's found her groove again. She started great earlier in the season but SIMMERED down. -Barnes and Akana have stayed steady (with some bad games for both) but I think they can pick it a bit more.
I know the girls are trying their best but this is just my thoughts and hopes to finish out Big 12 and beyond. We have a month (?!??!!?) until the season is over. It's one game at a time right now and let's finish out strong.

i'd like to describe for y'all something i saw last night during the match...something i'm not quite sure i've seen before (or i have and forgot) at some point during the 1st set, jenna was in the front row at the left pin. she came up, took a swing - no kill, no stuff, play continued - but, when she landed, she hit the net. HOWEVER, she hit the net on the left side of the vertical out-of-bounds pole. i looked at the down ref expecting a net violation to be called but nothing. i saw him look up to the up ref, made a signal with his hands, and then play went on. if my memory is correct and this sequence did occur as described, does this mean that it's okay to hit the net on the out-of-bounds side? or am i crazy person who is inventing scenarios on the webernets? i saw wenaas in the net twice with no call (watching via lhn)

I do see it picking up again with Asjia but Molly has the edge right now. Last night, I recall there were 2-3 swings from Asjia that would have gone down as kills if the ISU blocker hadn't gone into the net. It's still a point for Texas, but I'm guessing that would decrease Asjia's hitting stats. Maybe uofaGRAD can confirm - in a situation like that, would you record an attack (but no kill) on the hitter?
