taylor jones was unstoppable. i hope madison booker is okay i just saw the post game press conference vic said booker just strained her hamstring (not a major injury)...also amo will be able to play in the thanksgiving tournament this coming week (she's already practicing full speed)...we just need gaston back...this is a good team, i can't wait see how things turn out that is good news, both for booker and amo. team will play 3 games in 3 days in the virgin islands. i think it would be wise for booker to maybe kinda sorta not play in those

Its not being referenced, so I’ll just say the winning bucket for MBB against Louisville was a classic. I hope Louisville is good this year, otherwise that great win is not a good sign.

Louisville looks to be better from the disaster that was last year, but still they aren't very good. Still early days for Texas though to figure it out. Defense has to be better.

Houston is straying further and further away from that t25 RPI. Lord give me strength.

Houston is straying further and further away from that t25 RPI. Lord give me strength. Or acceptance. I’ve been going for acceptance. It doesn’t matter where we’re seeded we’re going to have to beat some good teams. That Sweet 16 matchup is going to be a more accomplished team than it often is. It’ll be fun to see what they can do. They never really have put it all together this year. Maybe the first couple of rounds of the tournament they play at a different level.

Would/could/should there be a time limit on the refs to review a challenge? Sometimes it goes on too long especially when the policy is for there to be “definitive evidence” to overturn a call. At some point it starts to feel like the ref is searching for something that isn’t apparent.

At some point it starts to feel like the ref is searching for something that isn’t apparent. I agree except I get concerned some kind of time limit could have an outsized effect on making the wrong call. But there’s no question some touch challenges in particular go on too long. I guess my biggest hope is that we’ll get a widespread adoption of higher resolution video captured at faster speeds implemented everywhere to make it easier on officials to make the right call. To me better than putting a time limit there needs to be a huge emphasis on training and better technology. But all of that costs money, time, and resources. And it’s not like you could pay me enough to be an official. They’re not out there for the money. But the long delays can be really bad to grow a casual audience. That’s for sure. I’d just hate to get more bad calls because we put pressure on refs to get the call in before the sands in the hour glass emptied, a la The Days of Our Lives.

I’d just hate to get more bad calls because we put pressure on refs to get the call in before the sands in the hour glass emptied, a la The Days of Our Lives. Here's an interesting nugget. In a typical game broadcast by LHN, they have 3 sets of cameras. One with the up judge along the net. Then two end of court cameras that are screwed on the old hand railing on the second floor where the cameras line up to focus on the end line.
During a recent (rare) game that was broadcast by Fox, the end line cameras were removed. The next game when the broadcast reverted back to LHN/ESPN, then the cameras were back in place.
So, it made me realize that these cameras were at the whim of the broadcast network.

Someone recently told me on some random match thread that they’d been watching a Washington State broadcast and they were putting the video of the review footage on the screen somehow. According to this person they were getting a lot more looks than the TV cameras had. But I didn’t see it personally. I wish I had.

Unrelated (this thread is really going sideways), I remember a playoff game where the LHN person who does the timeout/commercial management was asked by "someone" to block the people behind her from seeing the screen which shows the video that the down judge goes through during a review. So she wore a full length coat and would stand up during the reviews and pull the coat outwards to create a shield so that others could see the content that was being reviewed.
Uhhhh, it was a weird look. Made this woman look like a "flasher" (from the back side). They haven't tried that tactic since.

I hope the team gets to see their families this week - even if they don't get the chance to go home, at the very least they get to spend Thanksgiving in Austin instead of spending it at a hotel (which is what happened last year IIRC).
Took a look at Tech's stats and they are. . . hmm. Let's just say their top hitters are the setters, the OHs are hitting .210/.124 on the season, and the MBs are at .236/.187.
So the game plan this week is to sweep, and to work on things for the tourney. In no particular order:
1. Slides for all- Asjia, Bella, Molly 2. Line shots and high hands from everyone 3. 2022 tourney serving 4. Madi on the D ball 5. Would not mind seeing some BICs from Jenna in case she plays all around again 6. Blocktastic Ella 7. Play faster - felt like we tried it last week at UCF and struggled, but support it generally.

me and basil have consulted and we would like to see jenna continue to play six for the last match of the season. potential pros: 1) it gets wenaas more in the flow of the game like she's used to 2) her ball control right now is better than barnes 3) hypothetically her being able to attack backrow could take some pressure off madi and asjia front row potential cons: 1) her serve isnt very good and barnes' is very good. i would genuinely like to see a serve sub (so 5.5 rotations) 2) barnes is probably a better defender, although we really havent seen much of jenna backrow since spring 3) making a lineup change this late could be detrimental to chemistry, although im not really feeling a ton of it as we speak anyways. barnes and halter dont seem to be on the same page a lot...

I don't hate it. If you're going to try new stuff, Tech is the team you want on the other side of the net. Probably JE will give us the same-same at the starts of sets 1/2 and sub out toward the ends if we have a lead. If we cruise through 1/2 we might see him loosen up at the beginning of set 3
