that Smrek stat is misleading as much as I love her (I think she makes Wisconsin the best team in the country) but when she’s set OOS, it’s a perfect set, perfect situation. Madi and Franklin get prayers of sets LOL Always enjoy your analysis on here. Help me understand in my ignorance how Smrek gets perfect OOS sets? I don’t doubt you, just curious. I know GG sets well OOS and so does Orzol (who I think is their unsung difference maker like Knuckles was for NEB last year) so that helps. Does the 6-2 create better OOS opportunities? Lastly, they sometimes swap Smrek and CC and Smrek runs stuff out of the middle. But would that impact more in system? Thanks again for your insight. Also, why does UofA’s football field say Bear down? But they’re wildcats?? basically Smrek only gets set “OOS” when it’s a perfect dig from the setter. if Wisconsin is truly OOS, they always send it to the outside. Sarah Franklin will literally hit balls that come from behind her and over her head. Smrek is basically getting a normal set she’d normally get just with less tempo lol. GG is also a goated OOS setter and shes in there for 2/3 rotations with Smrek. and yes, Bear Down is our little saying, our “Hook ‘em”. the (half true) story is that we had a QB who was driving with teammates back from a dinner with his family in the Phoenix area I think and wrecked, leaving him in critical condition. the coach visited and everything and the QB told the coach to tell the team to “Bear Down” for their upcoming game. the QB ended up passing away after, and it’s been the saying ever since.

The way I heard it was really moving. “Guy got into a car wreck then said ‘tell the team to bear down, coach.’ Then he died.” Doesn’t really have much of an emotional impact. It would be like someone saying Freddie Steinmark got cancer in his leg then died. Why even make a movie about him?

I’m not very passionate about because the truth seems to be he was drunk driving…🫠 the QB though was like class president, started an honorary, homecoming king, the whole nine yards. big man on campus. John B Salmon.

I don’t think there’s any need for you to be fully bought in, but I’m making fun of you for it anyway, because that’s just how I am.

Madi is as effective OOS as she is in system: I was surprised she's more effective than Franklin per this analysis. This also shows that our in system setting needs work.

Took a very quick look at A&M stats. It's hard to tell whether or not A&M will be running a 6-2, but the most kill production is coming from one OPP (Lednicky .242) and the 2 OHs (Meuthe .231/Muoneke .224). The second OPP is actually the most efficient pin of all (Lupoyo .244) so IDK why she's not getting more sets (less than 1/3 of what the other pins' total attacks), unless she's injured or they've moved to a 5-1 and she's sitting. Here is the game plan: 1. SWEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEP. 2. Serve their OHs off the court. Pass nails on our side. 3. Cos-Okpalla is the best blocker in the US, so Thursday night will be the Hit Line/High Hands/OTT Tip Challenge when C-O is in the front row. 4. We were playing faster against Tech and Ella got to push some beautiful gap sets to Asjia and Mari in front, more please. 5. Madi doing Unanimous Big 12 POY things. 6. ANGRY JENNA taking no more %*$# from VT or her Aggie family. 7. Tournament Molly reappears, hitting .675/10k/6blks and sends hornshouse23 into a swoon. 8. GREAT WALL OF ASJIA, continuation of Tech match. Takes over #1 blocker spot (Lol Idk if this is statistically possible, but that is beside the point) 9. Bella Bergmark Revenge Tour - Bella taking it incredibly personally that she got left off the B12 awards list 10. Ella dishing sets like butter - left side, middle, right side, BIC, D - all of it

Doesn’t hit with pace or locate well but she’s got great length and high contact point. They’ll most likely play a 6-2 unless they struggle. Love the game plan!!

Serve Meuth hard when she’s in that front row. Girl CANNOT pass. Yeah, both the OHs are in the 30s for reception errors this season (30 for Meuth and 39 for Muoneke). It's alot

I'm still kinda new to the sport so still learning the lingo. What does "in system" and "out of system" mean?
Also, is there any good resource for learning more of these things past the basics? Thanks!

Thanks! great question, as it’s honestly subjective in the grey areas! in system is considered when the setter specifically has multiple options to set. usually the setter only has to take a few steps to set, if any. out of system is when there’s a bad pass or poorly located dig and the setter only has one option to throw the ball up to OR when a setter gets the first ball and the libero has to set the hitter (no matter how good or bad the dig from the setter is). a lot of times, in system, players will have full approaches that are smooth. out of system is when you see players really have to wait on the set and then have a late last two steps, also called a “step, close” before attacking. if I knew how to record my computer screen, I’d post videos for you. maybe I can find some highlights online to post

Okay, putting it where coach said to put it for the kill
Out of system: Holy sh*t! What the hell! Just get it UP!!!!
