Can anyone with a better understanding of hitting mechanics explain why Jenna gets blocked so much? Is there something about her swing or approach that makes her shoulder really easy to read? In my opinion, it's her transition and approach. All the times I've seen her, and this includes many times when she was a Gopher, she doesn't work hard in transition to get off of the net to get at least a 3-4 step approach. I think this can also affect her vision as she isn't able to see what the block is giving her. She's seems comfortable just back pedaling a few steps (or shuffling sideways along the net) in transition and then using a two-step approach (or nay approach) and she doesn't get much lift or momentum with that. I think she has a good arm swing as evidenced by her ability to get some really flashy kills at times. Again, this is my opinion based off of what I've seen of her.

Its worse this year then last…i kinda got why Parra didnt get plying time last year cuz the team was stacked…the fact Jenna is gettin chance after chance over Devin and chances Parra never got last year is hillarious…ball out somewhere else Devin while JE keeps waiting for Jenna to be productive hitter It doesn’t make sense how Wenaas continues to play over other players. She hit negative on the last match of the regular season and hit negative (-.143) in the first match of the tournament. I’m over her and JE playing her over Devin. She also had zero blocks and had shaky passing. She's just not connecting well with swindle. 😞

I’m over her and JE playing her over Devin. She also had zero blocks and had shaky passing. She's just not connecting well with swindle. 😞 She connected with Shaffmaster at about the same rate. There’s a common denominator. There for sure is more going on than her connection with Swindle. The truth is she’s a decent player who is on a team with a fan base used to seeing super mutants at that position. Whatever else Wenaas is, she doesn’t have the same kind of athleticism or termination abilities of Nwanebu/White/Eggleston/Fields/Skinner. We’re spoiled. We like being spoiled. With Wenaas we’re not spoiled. That’s honestly what it boils down to. Both Swindle and Wenaas return next year. Any fan expecting an increase in production because they’ll have a better connection is kidding themselves. I mean, it’s within the realm of possibility, but it’s not a realistic expectation. To be at its best Texas needs super mutants at both OH positions. The earliest I see that happening is 2025.

A couple of thoughts: 1. I went through box score and counted the number of blocks by A&M attributed to attacking errors by Wenaas. A&M had a total of 14. Set 1 - 4 Set 2 - 2 Set 3 - 1 Set 4 -1 I guess that's considered....coaches adapting? 2. [Deleted by me trying to spare players' feelings]
3. JE is such a "moneyball" coach he pulls out all these stats when explaining why he does what he does. What kind of decisions are being made for a player who is hitting negative throughout the game? 4. [Deleted by me trying to spare Longhorn Fanatics' feelings]
5. [But I'm not going to let (1) go] 6. Explain this to me who are more in the know about A&M and volleyball. When A&M started the game subbing in two at a time on rotations, I thought, "Hunh, doesn't that usually mean they play a 6-2? I'm not sure. I'll ask my daughter later. But if the game goes long won't they run out of subs?" And then that third set where they ping-ponged back and forth on points....did A&M slow down subs because they knew they would start running out of sub counts? 7. The bands. A&M brought a strong contingent to the game. UT's band seemed lighter than normal. A&M's band seemed to playing a lot more during breaks, whereas UT lite band were just looking on their phones during timeouts. I've experienced the A&M band playing in Gregory the last time they were here for a tournament. They were good. And they played music other than their standard Aggie themes. My wife asked, "Do they allow women in the band?" [Hey that used to be a thing, that they didn't allow women in the band] and I said, "Yup, there's one girl right in the middle of those guys" 8. However, the band may not know the strategy on making noise during the game. Truth be told, I didn't know until 2 years ago. The band was constantly trying to make noise to distract our servers. I was thinking, "Dudes....thanks!" 9. It was sad that seats were sold out and yet, people didn't show up. Next to us: 10. For two sets the Texas State fans and cheerleaders stuck around, probably waiting for players to shower up and then all board buses back to San Marcos. The cheerleaders were cheering along for Texas, singing our chants, even throwing up the Horns.

ok well... On to tonight!! Should be a bit of a better match up for us, when thinking about the block. SMU's offense is better for sure but they're def not as good of a blocking team as A&M.

I cringed and went to looked at the box score of SMU/Texas St and was surprised to see that they "only" had 6 blocks. Then I looked up the NCAA rankings of blocks/set for all three teams.
Texas: #2 A&M: #7 SMU: #73
Whew. I feel better about tonight.
