Hereās my take from the game: -that said, a much older subdued crowd. Even when Stanford was playing lights out. Like Iām sorry to Bairdā¦ getting an absolutely smashing kill only to hear a golf clap. Meanwhile jenna so much as doesnāt hit into the block and Texas section was all on its feet like we won an Olympic gold. Every point. ETA: we had Texas fans directly in front of us, and were all being super gracious on points stanford won. I have my gripes with the couple sitting next to us, but we were outwardly more supportive of good volleyball, even when it was a Stanford point. -speaking of jenna, she was much improved. Much much improved. The other girls were very supportive of her, which I love. Regardless of what we think, sheās an integral part of the team. Even when getting madi the ball was the clear assignment, jenna seemed to play with a ton of team spirit. On Thursday, she was visibly frustrated A LOT, this match even when she messed up seemed to recover mentally alot quicker. Thanks for the writeup!
We know that the team and coaches read up on VT and they know our frustration with Jenna.Ā You have to give both coaches and Jenna credit that they're actively working the problem during the tournament.Ā It's gotta be stressful and painful to be that athlete where everyone pins blame on - me included.Ā So, sorry Jenna.
When I saw this hug, I knew it had greater significance than just a coach and a player having a victory hug.Ā He kept believing in her potential and she didn't go into a shell with all the criticism being heaped onto her.
My daughter is going to college in Dallas and when we watch Texas games together we call each other and watch the same stream and comment about the game to each other (which is ironic because when we're at the games together in Gregory we don't talk as much so that others can enjoy their time watching the team).Ā During one of Jenna's tips/sets/passes/lobs over the net my daughter was saying "Ugh, why did she do that?"Ā I said, "Caused she's been coached not to hit straight into the block and that's the best she could do right then"
That hug was everything! Jenna saying āThank you for not giving up on me!ā

Honestly the improvement over this season has been massive. Huge hats off to JE and the coaching staff In terms of JE's coaching skill to get a Texas team into the Final Four (regardless of the final outcome), I rank this year as his second best effort.
#1 2010-2011 - A team put together with duct tape and bailing wire with a walk-on MBA student OH (Lauren Dickson*) that he found similar to Morgan O'Brien.
#2 2023-2024 - A team replacing NC players who exhausted their eligibility and introducing a freshman setter
#3 2020-2021 - COVID, with limited practices, playing with limited audiences in cavernous Erwin and mowing through the BIG opponents
*Each time I try to remind myself what year it was I google Dickson's name.

Agreed! Iād also like to nominate 2016 when Chiaka didnāt play and we still made back it to the NC match after sweeping Nebraska in the semis. Micaya came up big in her redshirt freshman season, and Bedart-Ghani and Johnson held it down!

So is the team coming home and then headed to Tampa? Or do they go straight from Cali?

I sure hope they have a blast in Tampa. IDK how much time will be left after practice/scouting/recovery, but I hope they get time for a theme park or boating or something. They've earned it.

Last night's win was so sweet and satisfying. So many reasons for feeling that way, but it's also because it's been a while since we actually won a regional final against a 1-seed on their home court (a lot of that has to do with us mostly being a 1-seed):
1995: Beat 1-seed Florida in Gainesville, FL 2008: Beat Iowa State at home 2009: Beat Nebraska in Omaha 2010: Beat Purdue at home 2011: Lost to UCLA in Lexington, KY 2012: Beat USC at home 2013: Beat Nebraska in Lincoln 2014: Beat North Carolina in Minneapolis 2015: Beat Florida at home 2016: Beat Creighton at home 2017: Lost at 1-seed Stanford 2018: Lost at 1-seed BYU 2019: Lost to Louisville in regional semi-final 2020: COVID season won at neutral Omaha 2021: Lost at home to 10-seed Nebraska 2022: Beat Ohio State at home 2023: Beat 1-seed Stanford at Stanford

Like how are we this consistently good? Love it for us.
