Well, that's an interesting step backwards in time. I thought the whole point of discontinuing the tournament was to let teams be fresher going into post-season, and to avoid having bubble teams take unexpected losses and hurt their chances. Has any of that changed? I was thinking the same thing but we will just have to wait and see I guess.

I thought the whole point of discontinuing the tournament was to let teams be fresher going into post-season, and to avoid having bubble teams take unexpected losses and hurt their chances. Has any of that changed? Let's be real. They discontinued it because Florida won it 12 times in 14 years. The tournament would end the weekend before Thanksgiving and most teams would play 2 out of conference games the Friday & Saturday before Selection Sunday. Don't think they were too worried about fatigue.

I mean, what changed is that ESPN took over exclusive television rights to the SEC. They're trying to figure out ways to maximize the value, and while the volleyball tournament won't have the kind of impact football will, it can still be an important piece, especially if they can grow the audience. And in any case it helps them with any equity arguments.

The new Moody Center at Texas would be a great venue. Normal configuration is about 10K and I believe it can hold over 15K if needed. Could be but not gonna happen. Welcome to the SEC… it’s going to be one of three locations… Nashville, Atlanta, Birmingham

Welcome to the SEC… it’s going to be one of three locations… Nashville, Atlanta, Birmingham I think you're selling the conference a little short. SEC Tourney hosts since 2003: Men's Basketball - Nashville (9) (granted, they did just sign a contract with Nashville through 2035), Atlanta (6), New Orleans (2), Tampa (2), St. Louis (1) Women's Basketball - Nashville (6), Greenville, SC (6), Duluth, GA (4), Little Rock (4), Jacksonville (1), though supposedly they're looking for a full-time spot for this as well. Gymnastics - Duluth (6), Birmingham (5), Little Rock (3), Jacksonville (2), St. Louis (1), Nashville (1), New Orleans (1), Huntsville, AL (1) I could definitely see Texas hosting a few tournaments down the road.

Austin or maybe Dallas is a reasonable distance for five schools - UT, A&M, OU, Arkansas, and LSU and fairly easy fly-in for most. Since this area will be the biggest recruiting area in the SEC footprint, coaches may want it occasionally in Texas for the recruiting exposure.

I think you see it in Houston or Dallas way before you ever see it in Austin.

Coaches will only have what they think is say on this matter… the decision on where the tournament will be is going to be decided in two places… Birmingham and Bristol…

As far as recruiting AND attendance goes Texas, Florida and Kentucky would be the best options, maybe Tennessee since it's close to Kentucky. If the committee or coaches or whoever decides these sorts of things wants to kill two birds with one stone that is. Otherwise, who knows.
It would just be very lackluster for it to end up anywhere else. The other states in the SEC just aren't HS vb powerhouses.

It would just be very lackluster for it to end up anywhere else. The other states in the SEC just aren't HS vb powerhouses. It’s not about recruiting or attendance. So you can forget about it. B-HAM will look at what’s the best logistics wise… B-TOL will look at what’s the best optics on the little screen and how to spend the least amount of $$$ on it. The best combination for those are: ATL-NASHVILLE-BIRMINGHAM. I will say this… someone brought up the idea of rotating the event… could be an option that both. SEC AND ESPN would consider right away as long as whoever wants to host… also wants to pony up some of the money for the expenses of having a tournament.

Looking forward to a second portal update that possibly includes how the teams looked in the spring.

Looking forward to a second portal update that possibly includes how the teams looked in the spring. Since most spring matches aren't televised or streamed, I would most likely have to crowd source the latter part of this -- which I think would be a great addition to the thread.
