didn't take long for the culture to improve... Culture/cohesiveness was definitely not the issue, the players all got a long great.

To me, that's a healthy, unified team look - dinner dressed in team colors. pizza and fries? doesn't look that healthy!

Culture/cohesiveness was definitely not the issue, the players all got a long great. They're implying that now the team has a better relationship with the coaching staff. Growing up in California (until my high school years in Illinois), I was a UCLA sports fan. My young belief was that I would always matriculate at UCLA. Fortunately (or unfortunately) my parents decided to move back to Illinois where my family is from. I matriculated at Illinois State (which is no where near the caliber of UCLA or the University of Illinois). All things happen for a reason, and I met my husband of 51+ years at ISU. We both retired from the University of Illinois in Champaign-Urbana, and are devoted fans of both ISU and Illinois. However, now with former assistant U of Illinois coach, Alfee Reft, esteemed assistant coach and close friend of current Illini coach, Chris Tamas, I now have a third college volleyball team to root for. Lots of bad memories of Illinois vs. UCLA sports confrontations. In The 1984 Rose Bowl game, played on Monday, January 2, was the 70th edition of the game, the unranked UCLA Bruins upset the #4 Illinois Fighting Illini by a score of 45–9. I and my husband were there resplendent in orange bib coveralls. Leaving the Rose Bowl in Pasadena we were targets of ridicule and taunts as we left the game. But the Rose Parade was a wonderful memory! The rumor circulating in Champaign-Urbana was that the Illini were partying late into the night prior to the bowl game drinking and smoking weed! Illinois coach Mike White was a transported Californian having coached at U-Cal Berkeley before coming to the U of Illinois. Then in 2011 UCLA defeated Illinois 3-1 in the NCAA National Volleyball Championship match. I do not remember the name of the Bruin outside hitter that was unstoppable...but she was the difference in the match. My dream future final NCAA match would be a UCLA vs. Illinois match. What are the odds?

I also rewatch this match from time to time and laugh at the fact that Karsta Lowe is a freshman riding the bench in that match when she would develop into such a tank at the Oppo position.

More amazing is the fact that Karsta Lowe started as a walk-on her freshman year.

And freshman Zoë Nightingale played the game of her life that night, getting 11 blocks. UCLA had zero service errors for the match and I think Illinois had something like a dozen.

Will Amir help to bring TTA to Westwood? He needs to try and bring in Becker. Bruins are still thin at middle, even with Dodson coming back. Your wish, granted: https://www.instagram.com/p/Cnpft0FJjst
