Why would you want Vansant? She doesn't seem to have done anything as a coach. Vansant's coaching record: 2018 @ Indiana 16-15 2019 @ Indiana 14-19 2020 @ Indiana 5-15 2021 @ Indiana 10-22 ( and Indiana's record for 2022 was 16-16) 2022 @ Illinois 15-15 ( and Illinois' record for 2021 was 22-12) There are for sure more factors, but her team doesn't seem to perform well at all. Tama yes pls. I also think we need a really strong recruiting coach. 2017 @ Washington 25-8 2016 @ Washington 29-5

So happy for Tui and the team. Jason will be gone very soon, but would have been regardless. He deserves to be a head coach.

To round out the staff, I’d like to see a strong associate that has experience - is Moreno on tap to take over at ASU? If not, perhaps him. Assistant coach - get Vansant to come home, Thompson or Miyashiro. Well, looks like Moreno is off the board, though, I really just wanted some sideline eye candy. Can Tui persuade Tama to leave the national team staff and join as associate head coach?

In general, is it fair to ask: Are the majority of fans looking for the staff to provide stability and consistency? Or, to ramp up the program? It's a topic in other searches, I'm curious with no knowledge or agenda. Thanks.

But I'm sure everyone in the athletic department at UW, including Leslie Gabriel, wants a return to being a top 10 team and being in the hunt for another title. I don't think too many VT UW fans will be happy with less.

IMO, if you want a ramped up program, you may be better off (like Penn State) retaining only one coach and bringing in two new assistants to energize the program. I thought when Rose left, if 2/3 of the staff stayed, it would be harder to shift gears.

First off, I don't think the program needs some sort of major overhaul. Most other D1 programs would be super happy to have done as well as the UW over the past 10-20 years, or even the past 5 years.
Secondly, if you do hope for some sort of major shift, it doesn't seem too likely, given that they just selected a coach who has been on the staff for the past 20 years, the majority of that time as "associate head coach". That argues a lot more for continuity than some sort of major shift.

It explains why she was THE choice. Whether she is the RIGHT choice is a completely different question because it's not simply a question of continuity or stability, but navigating the new environment, including the conference environment, in which the volleyball coach has very little influence.
